I'm fairly new to writing poems, so please let me know what you think of it!

    i've had a tough life,
So to ease the pain I turned to a knife

I started the same as everyone else,
A few scratches on my wrist,
'It's nothing, just a scratch', you tell yourself.
A while later those scratches are a list,
Recording every time things got too much.

Then your friends notice as you withdraw,
'This is my secret', you think.
Unknown to you their concern grows,
Until they cannot make their feelings sink.

    What will it be today?
    A cat...A fall...An accident?
    The excuses keep coming,
Flowing off your tongue like a river,
    They fool no-one.

    You carry on,
As the pain grows the wounds get worse.
    Their numbers increase,
    So does their depth,
You now need more to get the same release.

Your secret is no longer safe,
    You hear the same things,
    Over and over again.
They want to help but don't understand,
    And then,
    You lose control.
    The cutting is controlling you,
You don't realise until it is too late,
Stop the addiction before it starts,
It can and will ruin your life.
