i'm just wondering if anyone else here has issues with showering? i feel vunerable and isolated when i shower and it makes it a very stressful situation for me. my mum doesnt understand it and shouts at me when i go about my "ritual" for getting ready for my shower. i'm just wondering if anyone else goes through the same thing

I get a trapped feeling when I shower. I tend to only shower once every 3 days...its kinda gross but sometimes showers freak me out. and when I take them I rush through them as fast as I can.

i used to hide in the bathroom to get away from my family here and still take long showers and i suppose i do go through a ritual, and when i was 14/15 i was compulsive with being clean and had rituals that would take hours. instead of feeling vulnerable, it was and is safety/soothing for me.

is there any way of telling your mother to back off because what she's doing might not help you one bit if you're feeling anxious and vulnerable bathing?

I don't shower a lot usually because I sleep in too late during the work week.

If you guys feel closed in when you shower, you would HATE my shower. I do and I normally love to shower. It's basically 1/2 the length of a standard bathtub, with an oblong oval shaped shower curtain rod that goes up on top with a white plastic shower curtain that sits inside the tub and give 3/4 privacy.

mine is 1/4 of a bathtub it's square and it's got a shower curtain. it's tiny and people who'd feel trapped, would feel worse.

I will say this though....one good thing about being single is that I can pee in the shower!

the rituals do "soothe" my nerves to a certain extent but its still a very stressful activity and i dont know why. i cant talk to my mum about it cause she will just dismiss it and say i'm making it up/lying

I love showering. My own warm little place.

Hell, I'd sleep in there if I wouldn't drown.

After I shave and clean and all that, I turn the water temp WAY up to where it us just below scalding. And I stand there and just soak in it. I love it.

I used to like showering more... because it was huge. Now the new place it's just a small square... and because of my disability, I have to sit on a shower chair... so it's very cramped! But I have to have a walk-in type shower, I can't use a bathtub type...

But lately, I don't like showers because I cry every time I am in the shower... it's actually a good place to be able to cry without anyone knowing... but I don't like crying anymore, so I don't like showering anymore. Between the size, feeling cramped... and crying... the shower doesn't appeal to me much right now.

Plus, I like SHARING the shower with someone special, and this one is way too small for that!

I hate baths but I love to shower. I wish I had one in my house, I could spend forever in there as well. The water falling down onto me, there's just something so soothing about it all.

I have a fear of showers for some reason. It developed into panic attacks, recently, but then went away again. I think the panic attacks are over, all that's left is the fear of them which causes a constant state of anxiety. When I was having them, I'd wash up in the sink.
