Might be thinking of another site but was there a board here once for pet owner's to talk? Don't see it anymore.
Adopted a cat recently, several months after my old buddy died, and was worried about him if something happened to me and what the best arrangements were.
I would hate to take him back to the shelter but...

Hi, @islandification. Several years ago there was a pets group here. I think that in the revamp of the site we gave up some features that were not being used a lot.

It sounds like you are asking because you think you might do something to yourself someday. How about focussing on the joy that having a pet brings to you in the here and now? Your furry friend is someone to snuggle, take care of and be loved by. Those are all good and hopeful things. :)

What is your cat like? Colour, length of hair, temperament, name...? Could you post a picture? Kitties are wonderful!

Hi Islandification, I have a pet Mouse. His name is Pippin aka Sir Pip the Squeak Mus Musculus! Sometimes he is my spot of sunshine and what I do I do for him. I hope your Cat brings you comfort and many moments of joy.

@islandification, I think if you posted a thread in "I Have a Question", and had a title that included something about rehoming a cat, you might be get some good replies. There may also be some pet-specific forums where you could ask.

You could also try contacting a shelter or other pet-related organization (like your state's Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, if you're in the US).

You might be able to arrange to have someone check in on you and your cat on a regular basis, and then always have enough food and water available so that your cat would be ok even if you weren't.

Really the best thing for you cat would be for you to stick around and care for him. Do you feel like you're at risk for a suicide attempt, and that's part of why you are asking about this?
