here is slow dance (the thing written by the girl with cancer)

    but the message is important..

    Slow Dance

    Slow Dance

    Have you ever watched kids

    On a merry-go-round?

    Or listened to the rain

    Slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly's erratic flight?

Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

    You better slow down.

    Don't dance so fast.

    Time is short.

    The music won't last.

Do you run through each day

    On the fly?

When you ask How are you?

    Do you hear the reply?

    When the day is done

Do you lie in your bed

    With the next hundred chores

    Running through your head?

    You'd better slow down

    Don't dance so fast.

    Time is short.

    The music won't last.

    Ever told your child,

    We'll do it tomorrow?

    And in your haste,

    Not see his sorrow?

    Ever lost touch,

    Let a good friendship die

    Cause you never had time

    To call and say,"hi"

    You'd better slow down.

    Don't dance so fast.

    Time is short.

    The music won't last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere

You miss half the fun of getting there

When you worry and hurry through your day,

It is like an unopened gift....Thrown away.

    Life is not a race.

    Do take it slower

    Hear the music

    Before the song is over

Dear Emily - I thought you might like to know that I have just found out from Snopes that the poem 'Slow Dance' was not written by a young girl dying of cancer in a New York hospital. Don't take my word for it, but see for yourself by following the link below:

Be that as it may, I have taken the poem into my collection and will do something beautiful with it, to do justice to it - with the name of its proper author. Here it is:

    Slow Dance

Have you ever watched children on a merry-go-round,
or listened to rain slapping the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight,
or gazed at the sun fading into the night?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Do you run through each day on the fly,
when you ask: ‘How are you?’, do you hear the reply?

When the day is done, do you lie in your bed,
with the next hundred chores running through your head?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

Ever told your child, we’ll do it tomorrow,
and in your haste, not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch, let a friendship die,
‘cause you never had time to call and say hi?

You better slow down, don’t dance so fast,
time is short, the music won’t last.

When you run so fast to get somewhere,
you miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
it’s like an unopened gift thrown away.

Life isn’t a race, so take it slower,
hear the music before your song is over.

okay... my post i was about to post is invalid. i was angry at something. but i've just read the top part of the post... and so i'm kind of relenting

is this what you did with it, or a copy of the original- i'm rather confused, the versions look alike- but my original version just has a bit of diffrent wording in it... not much

still rather angry to think you may be reposting what i just posted

Sorry to have upset you, dear Emily. The only word I have changed is 'kids' into children. This was done for the simple reason that I don't like the word kids for children, because to my mind they are not young goats. Hope you can forgive me for this and for re-posting the poem here.

when you look at it like that, sure.. i don't like the term "kids", either

it just looked so diffrent for some reason- maybe because of how i wrote it

Thank you for your understanding, dear Emily. Much appreciated. The poem only looks different because two lines have been contracted into one. Maybe that's what struck you at first.
