Don't you just wanna punch 'em?

Here I was sitting in traffic and the guy in front of me has a cigarette dangling out the window. For some reason, a knot of anger was rising from the PIT of my stomach. He then flicked the cigarette onto the street like the litterbugs most smokers are.

I know, I know what you're saying. It's not as offensive as blowing smoke directly into your face. But even when I see people smoking outside, ugh. The knot rises.

I occasionally have a cigarette or a cigar. I am usually very careful of where I smoke and what I do with the butt. I am, however, in the minority and as I very rarely smoke now, I notice that even after a smoker has left an area outside a building, usually you can smell it and it must drive non-smokers up the wall.

I don't blame you for being angry about this. A county outside Los Angeles, U.S.A. is currently considering an extra tax on cigarettes to help pay for the clean up of butts. It is said that nearly one third of the city expenses for cleaning up the environment is related to cigarettes.

Also, I was in a friends car one evening about 10 years ago when the car in front of us flung his flaming cigarette out the window...and right into ours and began to smolder in the back seat.

People who smoke do need to be more considerate.

Massive on the spot fines for littering. Thats my opinion. Public shaming and floggings at dawn. Think I hate litterbugs more than most people. Its a pet peeve. Just shows utter contempt for the environment, themselves, other people and the animals that sometimes trawl through that muck.

Oh My God yes!
Don't get me wrong - each to their own when it comes to smoking, but the fact that they cost the NHS about 1.5bn every year makes me sick! Why am I paying for people to break their dirty habits and prolong the few years they have left after developing enphysemia? Time is up - let them go in peace. lol!

You picked up this dirty habit and now my taxes are paying for your illnesses? What the hell!?
I was so happy when they banned it in pubs, bars and clubs. I remember a mate of mine swearing bloody murder because she couldn't smoke at the pub, she said it was 'her right' to smoke wherever she pleased.
If second hand smoke wasn't hazardous, I'd agree with her! If it was just a bad smell, I'd tell people to get over it and take a number, we have to go to clubs where people stink of booze, b.o and bad aftershave, so what's the difference?
But the sheer fact that second hand smoke is deadly means you DON'T have the right to smoke where you please, because my right to stay alive and keep a healthy heart cancels out any rights you have! LOL.

Smokers = Filth!

"Mind if I smoke?"

Mind if I kick your balls?
Mind if I smash your windshield and slash your tires?
Mind if I squirt AIDS in your face?
Mind if I shove mad cow intestines in your mouth?

Just some suggestions.

This sentiment would explain why smoking is growing more taboo both socially and even legally (i.e. through the banning of smoking in so many areas in many countries).

It's still a hit in the developing world though, especially China and India (the former being one of the heaviest smokers in the world).

Bad is subjective.
I consider it good because it makes me feel better. It's good for my mental health even if it's not good for my physical health.
Should people not be allowed to choose what to do to their bodies? Or is it up to our government to make sure everyone is in tip top shape? Let's have a government ordered 5-day a week physical workout program. And while we're at it we can ban fast food and pornography.

I smoke myself and have tried so many times to give up.
I believe although smoking is so bad for you, goverments allow it because of the revenue in taxes they can profit from.....

The same could be said for overweight people, drug addicts, people who attempt suicide .. each of them have brought the hospital stay on themselves, do you want all of these people to be turned away by the NHS and be left to "go in peace" ?

I've seen someone pass away from a smoking related illness, they would have given anything to have turned back the time and have not started smoking but it's an addiction ... the same as gambling, alcohol, drugs, self harm and once you start it's ridiculously hard to quit.

There have been many times when someone has summed up what I want to say much better than I could...this is one of them. WELL SAID SAM! Don't be surprised if sometime in the lives of the younger crowd here, they begin to heavily tax sweets, hi-cal "junk food" like cheetos, soda, etc...

The obese will be next in line to suffer at the hands of our ever-over-taxing government. Smokers were pretty easy to take down, but when then need their next scapegoat it will be the overweight. Then maybe the fast food industry.

Plus there is evidence to suggest that it's not as bad for you as people make you think.

http://www.forces.org/evidence/index.htm

There is a lot of good info on this site that suggests there are many positives to smoking in moderation.
LoL im sorry but to suggest that putting that amount of carcinogens in your system is good for you in any form of moderation or not is just stupid (but i guess if it helps you sleep at night).

I dont mind people doing something in their own home or privacy but when it effects me thats when i start getting a little frustrated. I used to smoke and am so glad i quit. I just cant justify or make excuses for paying a major corporation to disease me. Pretty stupid in my opinion.

Most admissions to A&E are DIY or sport related... maybe we should ban them too!? :lol!:
