So I am officially old --- I have cataract surgery for 1st eye on Wednesday...been told have a big eye so bit different...but curious if anyone has had the surgery and any advice etc. Watched a video (worked at medical museum in past so that didn't bother me)...but still have to admit idea of someone coming at my eye is a bit disconcerting....

I have had cataract surgery on both eyes. The only thing about the actual procedure that bothered me was how they "tape" your head to the table so you don't move during the surgery. That triggered some PTSD for me.

The biggest hassle was the eyedrops before and after, but I understand that now you don't have to do so many.

Also, you can't drive yourself either to the surgery or to the follow up the next day.

Hi there. I was just diagnosed this past month but I have quite a bit of time before the need to have surgical intervention.
What I’d like to tell you is that I worked for awhile as an operating room and recovery nurse in a cataract clinic. It is a simple quick procedure from a surgical standpoint. And recovery for most people is a good one. And most are happy with outcome. You will not be uncomfortable during the actual procedure if the doctor and clinic you have chosen is a good one
I understand the anxiety around having this part of the body worked on. You’ll be ok. And if for any reason you desire a phone call with me around this topic for any reason I will make that available to you. ☮️

I had cataract surgery on one eye. Put off the second eye as I was uncomfortable after first eye was done. I think part of the problem was the assembly line process used by the clinic. Very cold and impersonal. And for several months after the procedure I experienced discomfort in my eye. That discomfort is now gone. Vision also did not improve as much as I expected. I think part of my problem was having unreasonable expectations; I expected more improvement then I got. Will have the other eye done next year at a different place.
It really is a simple procedure and goes very well for most people. Process takes about 10 minutes, but you will be there for a couple hours because they have to dilate the eye. And you will need a ride.

Yes the doctor and clinic has to be a good one. I am so glad to hear your situation has resolved! I’m thinking the other eye will get done and you will have the result of better vision that you expect to have so to speak💫

Yeah, I had to have a YAG after the one eye was done. Problems developed right away so I wonder if doctor messed up. But that was like a 10 second procedure to cut away a portion of bag the lens was located it. It apparently had wrinkled up a bit. I had that done a a different place and will go there for the 2nd eye. I feel much more confident in the doctors there.

I remember you having it done........I'm very glad you found another practice for the next one..... And yes it only takes a few seconds to remove and replace one. Rather fascinating to watch it being done up close.

Thanks...admit was curious how they kept your head still...so helpful to know that ahead of time. Yes I start the 1st set of drops tomorrow and had a feeling was lots of drops when they said to bring all drops to every appointment...

Thank you so much ... your words were so reassuring especially as someone on the "other side" of the procedure as they say who's been through/seen many! So much appreciated as is your kind offer to pm you as well... :)

I appreciate your words about expectations as so many people are fortunate and end up 20/20... but given how bad my eyesight is ... I am hopeful to be able to read street signs and grocery store aisle signs... they've already mentioned I'll need reading glasses. So sorry that you had a bad experience hoping the 2nd one goes smoother for you.

You are so welcome I wish the best for you too. Pm anytime ☺️
So surgery went well...just dealing with what feels like extreme brightness...didn't realize how much cataract had blocked so much light. So wearing the sunglasses inside as well. aAll seems to be going in the right direction as can see distance for 1st time in my life ...and they gave me a leave in contact for left eye...as next step will be to get insurance to approve 2nd eye. It is surprising how you don't realize you're having surgery on your eye. And to think that I may only need reading glasses after all this is just amazing. So thank you one and all for all your kind words and support

Hope for speedy recovery! Congratulations on the surgery
Thanks. Doing well... brightness is getting a bit better and I can actually read the subtitles on the TV--- a first ever!!! I go on Wednesday for 1 week follow-up and to find out when might be possible to schedule 2nd eye along with insurance copay costs. Hoping not a battle given "young age" for cataracts....
