Ok this question isn't about what you believe, you can believe in God, Jesus, Thor or giant pink elephants, it doesn't matter for the purposes of this thread. But do you think people are generally better off with a Spiritual side? I mean I'm not very religious myself but it meant an awful lot to me when I was, and I do often really envy religious people.

But then again there is the negative side, some people see themselves as failing to live up to the ideals of their religion, as being sinners or evil people, or maybe others of their religion make them feel bad because they don't conform or behave in 'unacceptable ways'.

People like Richard Dawkins, would like to see the end of religion, but is that a good thing, because maybe even if it is all untrue, the benefits of believing it means that it's worth keeping around?

Hmm... this may be me being a bit stupid here but I don't quite see the link you're making between freewill and spirituality.

Anyway the reason I'm asking this is that many people believe that if they fall in love, meet that special someone, then their life will be made better - I personally disagree with that line of thinking, but I believe that if I find that 'spiritual connection' my life will be made better in the same way. Maybe that's just wishful thinking though, with no basis in reality?
