For the last six months or so I keep feeling really enthusiatic about things but then in seconds feel empty and negative. At first I thought it was a phase, but now I'm having second thoughts. Is it normal?

Hope anyone can help I'd feel like a phony having to talk to anyone about it in person.

    First, welcome to SF.

I have had siimilar experiences. This change from elation to depression or negative thoughts can happen over a period of days, minutes or seconds. I can only tell you that therapy (finally) and some meds. have lessened these swings. I have been diagnosed over the years as both clinically depressed and bi-polar.

It's normal in the sense that hundreds of thousands of people, if not more have similar symptoms. You may have a mild condition. I wouldn't hold back in speaking to your doctor about it. It would certainly not be phony and you may, in fact, need some help with this issue.
