    Struggle

If I had a pound for every struggle
You’d feel the beat of hatred’s heat
    The pain has doubled
    Power entwined in clocks retreat
Why do we dive into a mock repeat?
Where darkened untangling pushes and presses
The struggle is now when he dresses

O think upon the fire of this heart
A passion which could set the world alight
It fades and twisted: torn apart
Distortions wind disrupting the will of might
You rub and you grub and you tear and you fade
To misery you attach my soul: enslave
Greatness is but a memory in a cave
Potential, a sight you cannot save
    Before the deepest darkest mining
    Has undermined this heart;
    Leaves pain defining

Will whisper of a life always go unheard?
Or will fool die drowning in the herd?
Will power and passion lie upon the wasting?
Will hatred and lies undo the making?
The cry of the greatest prickled pretender
Will die in a whimper none shall remember
For there is no thing sadder than a drowning snail
No greater loss than muffled screams of a person,
    Who’s never set sail
There are no lovers when your heart has failed

I like this - the rhythms and pacing are well done! I love the image and sentiment that there's nothing "sadder than a drowning snail." Hope you will write more and share. :)

Thank you. I literally wrote this just now on the back of a horrendous struggle today. I DO NOT WANT to be in this breakdown anymore, but today I have fallen into EVERY SINGLE pitfall imaginable. This poem just flowed out of me, from that place; that place of absolute waste and choking and frustration. So yeah....thanks.
