  1. The Alcoholic’s Refuge

    I’ve grown to love
    and crave
    this small dark hole
    where oblivion pervades
    I swim into it
    I know it’s killing me
But at least it’s my choice
Life has kicked me too hard
    for too long
    It’s dark in here
but I’ve come to hate the dawn
    All it does now
    is show up my flaws
and how I’m full of scars
    For all my trying
    to escape pain
    in this deep place
    I’d rather remain
    Just to forget
    If only, oh
    just to forget
    and feel life move on
    without me
To feel temporary sleep and numbness
    waylay the insane,
    though it’s another false measure,
    yet the respite
    a treasure…
    A small place to hide
