you sit around and wonder things
    “Am I poison
    or just
    bad luck?”
    Sometimes you sit around
and just give up on the wondering.
you tie yourself into a knot
    thinking both at once
    poison and purposelessness.
    Sometimes you walk around
    and look
    at the shine
    the world takes on
and want so badly to join it
    see the crust
    of terrible things done
    and saving graces left undone
and you look at your hands
    small hands
    helpless hands
and wish you knew how to change the world
    but you don’t
    you can’t
    even change the words that
    came out of your mouth
    the night before
    the world didn’t hang
    in the balance
    just a
    A small thing
    like a country
    or a failing cancer treatment
or that first thought you had
    looking at the first thing
    you ever learned to love,
    impossible things
    improbable things
    that can’t be saved
for all the trying in the world
or all the weight held in
    those so small hands
    or all the
    care left in that
    so small
    fluttering organ
    that you hide beneath
    that fragile cage
    listening to it
    every lonely night before bed
    as it pounds you
    like an unwavering clock
    to bed.

As always, very good. And truthful, too. The latter is especially important in poetry, IMO. The truth is what it makes it so poignant.

You should consider writing lyrics for a band, or something.
