    This card can't possibly express
    my sorrow at the loss of your mother.
    But that's the custom of
    our corporate society;
    to make the card companies wealthier
    while Mothers are abandoning us
    by dying every day.
    Hallmark profits greatly
    from our grief
    while Heaven takes back another Mother.

    Fat lot of good that knowledge does us -
    the children still living;
    we have to learn new coping skills
    and adjust to living without her.
    Humans aren't very good at
    adapting to loss, though,
    and we keep a hole in our soul
    for the rest of our days.

    Oh Mother, I wish that you
    could have stayed a bit longer -
    Forever would have suited me
    just fine.
    How will I learn to get along
    without you,
    and how will I be able to stand
    the memories
    knowing that they are
    all I have now?
    The Real Thing is now Eternal:
    I am still a mortal being
    and haven't the patience needed
    to wait until my turn comes
    to be with you again.

    the love and loss seem so deep...there may be some comfort in knowing that you could love to that degree...as always, with much fondness, Jackie
