Hi i have olny just told my psychiatrist about my sexual abuse that occured over a 9yr period. Feel guilty and ashamed like i asked for it and it was all my fault. How do you or where do you start to work thru this? How do you know who to trust?

Hello margaret, as a fellow sufferer of abuse/rape I am going to say this is a difficult road to go down but you will get there in the end. You can trust your psychiatrist, they are highly trained and will have dealt with abuse victims before, try and build up a relationship with the psychiatrist before discussing the issue, that will help a lot. I know how hard it is, do it very slowly, you don't have to share everything all at once, go at your own pace not theirs. I wish you the best of luck, I hope you get where you want to be which is having this dealt with and the moving forward process. Good luck to you margaret.
