I've never, ever written anything like this before. My favorite holiday is Halloween and I wrote a poem about it. I kind of felt like Dr. Seuss for a moment but then I realized this is not a 'children's' poem. It's a lot darker in my opinion and in the point of view of someone else. So here goes...

The spirits come to me that night
    Carrying fear and instilling fright
Ghosts of my deepest horrors enter my sight
    All on hallows eve

As children frolic around and play
I sit in the creaky chair where I stay
Bearing sweet offerings of content dismay
    That night is hallows eve

When night turns dark and all is clear
They return home and wait for next year
Their innocence and ignorance so sincere
    For it is hallows eve

But I see what they cannot
The dead rising and making their plot
    Waiting for their only shot
    Only on hallows eve

The best word I came up with to describe this is "haunting!" It's very Halloween. :)
