it was almost as inane as I would have expected. not quite, so that's a
good thing I guess. also, to be fair, I did not watch the whole thing. well,
it's still on. I offed the idiot box and departed the idiot box viewing chamber.

Sarah Palin does have some formidable debating skills, I must say. not
untypical of Republicans past and present

Avoid, Evade, Deny, Whitewash, and Smoke and Mirrors. kinda like the
democrats in their own peculiar way. but Sarah is the undisputed champion
of this technique. for her, it's "alaska this, alaska that" "here's what I did in
    Alaska" "Oh look, there's Russia!"

I felt Alaska'd to the point I was afraid she was going to break into song.
Johnny Horton specifically for you REAL antiquities out there, or youngsters
who enjoy reading up on musical history.

Yes, Johnny Horton was a real person who really lived and really did make
records and his biggest hit of all time was of course...oh damn, I'm getting
an error message here. gotta cut this shor t

it's worth watching. it's interesting and almost slightly informative in very
small doses. all in all, I recommend watching at least some of it.

Yeah, I watched all of it..Neither of them were wonderful. Sarah Palin wasn't as bad as I expected, unfortunately.

she has charisma, which McCain does not. and Joe Biden has less charisma
than Obama. a bit of a balancing act. salesmanship is what it boils down to.

face it, we have lived in a television ruled country if not world, since
TV was invented. the first televised debate was Nixon/Kennedy. I was
a wee tyke of course. but even I could see Kennedy LOOKED a whole lot
    better than Tricky Dick.

don't remember what they talked about and it's beside the point.

there is always going to be a "popularity" contest atmosphere to a certain
extent. and in many instances it really does outshadow the so called
issues. actually in a lot or nearly all instances it outshadows issues.

Palin looks and sounds good, but she doesn't say anything. in my
    opinion, for what it's worth.

Palin winked at the camera  and not long after gave a shout-out to those little third-graders.

So I guess she's got the Nickelodeon Kids' Choice Awards vote? :giggle:

So much for Obama's youth demographic.

All in all, she speaks a lot of hot air as always, but Palin could've been worse. If she'd have said "maverick" one more time, though....

Biden used a lot of pathos which probably won the hearts of some single mothers out there.

At the end of the day, they are what politicians always are.

    Ahh, politics

pretty much. all in all, a fairly civilized dog and pony show

duplicate post? oops!! sorry about that!

they need to keep emphasizing "MAVERICK" so people won't keep
naturally drifting back to "but he really is a SOUFFLE"

maverick sounds better. more manly. Obama shoulda thought of that.
wore a big white stetson and chewed a piece of straw or hay or grass
or whatever silly sods who chew on things to look manly chew on.

"never Fear..*chew chew* oBAMA's here " with some manly
western music as he rides off into the sunset. he shoulda done that.
I'm tellin ya, the guy missed out. he had his chance...

I gotta say, Palin was VERY good tonight.

    Lemme tell ya why :)

The Dems put Hillary up there...well, they may as well have put a dude in a skirt on the platform, because she is a BULLDOG. Nobody even thinks of her as a woman. Big mistake. Palin, on the other hand, was feminine but not an airhead, polite but not a pushover, and pretty but not a sex-symbol. What a combo!

Meanwhile, Biden looked like he wanted to kill a million babies up there. Basically, nobody really cares what he says because he comes off as such a prick.

Clam, your reference to the Kennedy/Nixon debates was one I used this very night before I even saw your post. Nixon was unattractive and shifty (not to mention sweaty), but actually said things of substance, whereas Kennedy was handsome and smooth and glossed over many of the topics at hand (Palin anyone?). The bottom line is that in today's celebrity-obsessed culture, Palin was the clear winner. She was attractive, polished and likable.

Appearances aside, I like her policy on Alaskan drilling. She was right on the button whend she stated that we can either A.) buy oil from terrorists and terrorist supporters like Saudi Arabia who pollute the environment haphazardly and indiscriminantly, or we can B.) drill in Alaska as safely and environmentally-friendly as possible with our OWN democratic laws and sanctions, while at the same time furthering our independence from foreign energy sources. For myself, I would rather drill the shit out of Alaska than support the Saudi-Arabian/Iranian/Pakistani/Iraqui agenda for another 4+ years. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Not to mention the fact that Biden is a hypocrite of the premier degree (not that Palin might not be, btw). The man claims to be a Catholic and supports abortion. Bullshit. NO real Catholic supports abortion. That's like calling J.F.K. a Catholic. Oh, wait. He was, wasn't he?

just what this thread needed! comedy

but I think you're a little over the top with the sarcasm about Palin here.
I think we all agree the whinnying ninny of a woman can't answer a
single question. she knows NOTHING except how to scrape up the mooseshit
and lock up the drunk eskimos. but still, you don't have to be THAT sarcastic
about it. give the poor girl a chance. jeez...

Hey, dont knock it. The dude in a dress look worked well for Thatcher. If America ever does have a female president then I bet she wont be catwalk material. Just doesnt seem likely.

I'm no fan of the guy, but I thought he was very polite and I do not see where you get/got
the "kill a million babies" stuff. that's your own baggage you are projecting onto Biden.

your point is that Palin is a nice looking dumbass like Kennedy? ok.........and
that is a good thing? bad thing? you kinda lost me here...

well, I'd much rather play "hide the cuban hand rolled" under the oval office desk
with her than with old Joe :)

she does know a thing or 2 about gettin drilled :)

    I mean, 5 kids..

seriously hun, Biden was right on the money when he pointed out how many years it would be before we reaped the rewards of this alaska drilling. check it out. he's right. she's not.

meaning they are both politicians. oh yes. that they are. you think any politician says
anything other than what he 'thinks' and hopes (since he or she has his or her
big fat mouth open saying whatever it might be) HOPES and believes his supporters want
to hear? Biden is a politician first. catholic or not, the campaign is foremost, just as it
is with every other politician since they were invented

Clam, may I call ya Joe?

I think she did brilliantly :) She was the penultimate politician. She answered little, shmoozed a LOT, winked and smiled and was "darned" chaming.

I'm being serious. America is going to LOVE this woman. I did.

Biden was a dried-up husk and more than once, you could actually HEAR him breathing heavily through the mic. It was not a good scene for him.

    Palin came away looking great.
