Of a condom splitting? Would you notice? I probably shoulda paid more attention in sex ed class i know, but i really need to know now.
Also, if it's a really old condom, like he's had it for ages...does that make it less likely to work?

Pretty slim, but it's not guaranteed. It is noticeable, but not until after the damage has been done.

Oh, and I have no source for this, but based on my theoretical knowledge of latex, an unstretched condom oughtn't change characteristics with time - but with the price of condoms, it doesn't hurt to get a new one.

A good idea before using a condom, is to blow it up like a balloon and see if any air escapes. Condoms are supposed to be pressure tested by inflation in the manufacturing company, but sometimes defective ones slip through.

There are expiration dates on condoms because after awhile they do dry out which means they will dry up, crack, break etc. Like most things there is a time limit it should be used so if it's been in his wallet say..oh a year..probably not a good idea to use it. Best to go spend the money to get ones that are safer.

That's the problem. We kinda already used it, well in my defense i didn't know it was that old till after the deed was done. And now i'm a week late. Which doesn't necessarily mean that one thing, could be stressed or run down...but i guess i'm thinking the worst. Thanks for your replies.

I had a condom split on me once but it was pretty obvious as it was ripped apart. Not something you wouldn't notice. Hope you are ok. :hug:x

If you're a week late you should go get a test to check to see if you are pregnant and then be prepared that if you are to let him know.

Cerise, now i'm so worried about you i hope you come out OK. And I know I would totally freak in that situation as well, please give ur guy a little slack if he gets wacky. My friend has a sister who got pregnant from a broken condom, I really don't trust the things they are just a false sense of safety. I'm so scared of ever having sex for this very reason!

Wikipedia says this about condoms:
With proper knowledge and application technique—and use at every act of intercourse—users of male condoms experience a 2% per-year pregnancy rate.[3]

Sorry, but that does not sound like very good protection, a 2% chance to have your life ruined each year even if you do everything right. I just know it would be the end of my life if this happened to me.

You will feel and notice the condom breaking, believe me!

Before worrying just get the test, theres no point in stressing about it before knowing if you are pregnant or not.

Remember condoms arent 100% effective anyway but yes old ones out of expiry date will have less protection then new ones aswell.

I have never had a condom split (that I know about) or any unexpected babies (that I know about).......but then again I ain't inspecting 'em closely after use :ohmy:

a) get the right size condom
b) put the condom on properly
c) use a spermicide lubricant
d) remember that Mr Sperm leaks from Mr Banana well before the main event :tongue: - so make sure Mr Banana bags up before he does any warm up work with Mrs Tunnel of Love :tongue:
e) if feeling really unsure, double bag - or abstain :rolleyes:
f) make sure yer condom does not slip off - especially if it is yer only one :sad:
