I did what you told me because I'm a good kid
I didn't cry when you spanked me
    I didn't whine
Why didn't you want to be with me? I learned a lot from you.

I did what you told me because I'm a good kid
I believed you when you told me I wasn't yours
I believed you when you said you found me in the garbage
Why did you tell me I was trash? I learned a lot from you

I did what you told me because I'm a good kid
    I didn't bother you
    I was quiet
Why didn't you play with me? I learned a lot from you.

I did what you told me because I'm a good kid
    I got good grades
    I graduated
Why didn't you come to my graduation? I learned a lot from you.

I did what you told me because I'm a good kid
    I obeyed
    I got a job
Why didn't you talk to me? I learned a lot from you.

You didn't really hit me too hard
You just ignored me from the day I was born
    I feel nothing for you
I did what you told me because I'm a good kid. I learned a lot from you.

unfortunately, we were members of the same club, one, we truly did not wish to join...as Least said, how sad this is...please know you are cared about and honored today...hoping only joy and comfort to you...big hugs, Jackie

  4. That is so beautifully, plainly spoken, so straightforward the way you ask those significant questions - and yes, we learn many things, good and bad. It sounds like inspite of the pain, you have great strength in you,a daring spirit. More power to you! And thanks for sharing - many of us here have the same questions, but some have not dared ask...

Thanks Least, Jackie, and FAL1. It's very kind of you to give me such positive feedback on the poem. Sorry that you can identify with what I wrote. Kinda sucks, doesn't it? Adversity builds character, so you'd think we'd be bullet proof by now. (sigh) Rabbit

    Hey Least,
Ok, I just read your signature line: "There are 2 types of people in the world: those who divide people into 2 types and those who don't."

    That is so funny! Rabbit

Adversity - hmmm, need it like another hole in the head. I'm pretty sure I'm more hole than head lately... *sigh*

However, what I love about this place is the opportunity to identify with others - feel less alone, and your words enabled that...

...ditto to what FAL1 said! As to adversity building character - well it sure doesn't toughen the skin, does it?
