Remember that the human species is just a pack of animals. Would you expect a donkey or a monkey to have an accurate model of reality ?
Then why would you think humans should have one when we're so "close" to being monkeys. Furthermore, you can't say that "there is no point" because that would be a statement of wisdom/knowledge, which contradicts the fact that you/we are ignorant. Ignorance we don't know anything for sure (beyond our direct present moment animal sense experience), so insisting that "life is pointless" is just as wrong as insisting that "my God has a bigger dick than your God" or any other particular view.

Why can't we just all agree on something simple & down to earth ?

OP most of what you said is true. What is the point of life? no one knows, their is no point, evolution and life is just the effect of nature I think. I like the fact the the universe is infinite. Theirs so much to learn, to explore the mystery

I know I'm jumping into this discussion kind of late but as far as what is the "point" of life,... is it even a valid question ?

I believe Religion offers nothing in regards to that issue except more speculation. Just look at the many spiriritual viewpoints that start with the same premise ( ie, what is the point of life ?) and yet go off in all different directions. Its obvious they are all guessing, although most ( especially the three Abrahamic religions ) would fiercely deny that and assert their knowledge has been revealed to them by their God, holy books, prophets, etc and is therefore absolute and inscrutable.

IMO, I'm not even sure that the question should be "what is the point of life?" but perhaps should be "is your life satisfying ? "

Since there are apparently many religious adherents on this suicide forum it is safe to assume that even members of the faith community sometimes succumb to despair and execute themselves. For those individuals at least, religion failed to live up to it's implied promises.

I personally do not believe life has a "point". By that I mean that I do not believe that anyone of us has a mission to fulfill or that there is some pre-existing pathway that has been laid out before each of us follow.

The greater issue is "does your life satisfy you ?" Obviously for many of us
on this forum, whether we are religious or not, the answer to that question is "NO".

Lastly, if your life doesn't satisfy you then it is highly possible that you won't stick around long enough ( suicide) to even care what the supposed "point" was.

Metaphorically speaking, if I'm enduring sheer agony just from being alive and someone bothers me with such an esoteric question as "what...is...the.... point....of ....life?", I would pick up a wooden baseball bat, smash them over the head with it then ask them the same question. I promise they will not hear my words because they can only focus on their pain.

Now they will be living in my world. The world of pain, and pain changes everyone's priorities.

Hell i went from being depressed to
being normal to being depressed, but one thing keeps bugging me... whatever i do, there is no answer to that question! So? Buddhism, Hinduism, Christianity, Judaism, Taoism, Hedonism, anything you offer, does it have an everlasting meaning?

We are born into an unfathomable existence, on a tiny patch of space called earth that is itself a speck of dust in the galaxy that is a speck of dust in the infinite universe, and not only that, but during your entire lifetspan, you will die on an even smaller patch of space on THAT Earth.

Anyone else thinks human being are just limited and death is "unfair"? Religious people, what's the point of "Heaven", "Hell" or "Brahman" or any other mind-concoctions? That's the one thing I never really got. I don't want to be reincarnated or reunite with any Brahman, i don't want to live a blissful existence that is in itself meaningless (isn't it bound to get repetitive as well or the catch-22 is that i'll experience incessant eternal orgasms and ergo will not have time to consider the meaninglessness of it all?), I have no desire to commit to a life of hedonism here cause that is boring as well.

So... since life is an inexplicable mystery and a torture chamber, how cruel is that we are alive? The more I think of it, the more I realize that religion does not bring meaning to life but rather, further consolidates the nihilistic meaninglessness of it all!, did it ever happen, that a guy hates Atheism as much as he hates Religion, but reaches that conclusion since in the face of one-sideness and daily monotony of life, there is nothing better to do?

In short terms, how is it possible for someone like me (don't know if there are any others) to live if two of the biggest alternatives in the world (Atheism, Theism and everything inbetween) are not satisfactory?

So if I don't belong to any category, then whats the point of waking up every morning? From that point on, it seems as suicide is the best way to cork out your brain, no responsibility, no depression, no aspirations, worries or anything else, isn't that the perfect drug?

How vain it all is. Every human category. Love, Sex, Art, etc etc. People getting fatter, people getting leaner, hunks & jocks vs pickup artists and the usual joes..., movies, learning... working... why? who asked that "something" to bring me and countless others who wondered about the same question to to that existence? Why did I have to be coaxed? Why not just give it all to us at the outset, at least in that case the meaninglessness could be worth something until you're dead? Why does medicine exist, why do our bodies fail, why is there anything at all, and that magical "anything" created a world that is so far away from being "fun"? Am I ever gonna get the answer to that or should I, as had been advised here countless times, "wizen up" and self-indulge in the mystery? but what would be the point of that?

Guys, do u understand what i'm trying to say here? Without any appeal to ignorance or pity, why is it that no matter how good you try to think the world is, how optimistic everything is and how purposeful the world is, how everything is going according to plan, how you're gonna end up being successful, with a wonderful career and a great family, how "good" people are and how much happiness you wish everyone would be showered with - the thoughts you try to nail into your brain, the mental masturbation of having to wake up everyday to the same "existence" seem like such an unenticing prospect? (no matter how well-of and high-rolling you are)

Is suicide really the only option here? Why are the suicide rates so high pretty much in every developed country (Russia, Japan, US, etc)if everyone else gets such an immense kick out of life?

p.s
oh and btw, depression has nothing to do with me writing this post right now. that has been my opinion for a long time, but i've desperately grappled with myself trying to conceal it. Can't do that anymore. Could we please discuss this issue refraining from medical advices or any of the other trite banalities that i've already googled the net for? Philosophically speaking, what's the other emergency exists other than Religion or lack of it?
My post about why the earth is here may answer some of your questions.

It is one thing to serach for meaning of life. But when you start talking about suicide, this tells me that you are depressed. Find out the symptoms of depression. Get your depression cured. Then serach for meaning of life. As long as you are talking about suicide, you will never find the meaning of life.

Religion is not the essence of serach for meaning of live. No one knows what happens to us after we die. Heaven and hell are all concepts only. There is no proof that heaven or hell exist; these are all belief systems.

We are born... we should live a happy life and then we will die.

The aim of life is to be happy. You cannot be happy by indulging in carnal pleasures. You need spiritual values also to be happy.

Swami Vivekananda says even a little bit of work done for others awakens the power within.

Try to help some one without hoping anything in return. This will awaken power within you.

Islam is not a good religion. The Muslims have killed more people in the name of religion. They killed millions of people in India during their conquest. They are the most intolerant bunch of people. They kill the Muslims who change to another religion. They tried to kill Salman Rushdie. Christains will not kill you for denouncing Christ. Only Islamists do this sort of thing. Islam is evil. If they become tolerant then and only then people will accept Islam. What a joke... Islam the rleigion of peace. Converting others by sword and talking about peace!!!!!!

dear dimasok
u mentioned amultiple religions in ur post and didnt mention ISLAM
Islam have a lot about the meaning of life
but first u must know who is allah

there is no God Who deserves to be worshiped except Allah

******

Knowing Allah`s Names and Attributes liberates man from worshiping any form

of creation because creation is weak and is in need of The Creator, Allah

******

The knowledge about Allaah leads man to know that he is created to live

according to Allah`s way as revealed to the last Messenger Muhammad

******

Certainly, man can have no better guidance than that which comes from the One

Who had perfected everything, and the One who Has no deficiency in Himself

and in His Attributes. The One Who is Ever-Living and Who does not die. There

can be no One better than the One Who Has no need for anything the One Who is

rich the Giver the One who, after all, controls man`s soul. Man is so poor to Him.

He is Allaah, the True and only God. Man can bring harm to himself if he seeks

other than Allaah for help. Allaah is the One Who can help man drive away any

harm for it cannot occur without His Will and His Power

so the begining is to know who is allah
and then u must know y we r created from allah opinion from(quran)

allah says in quran

Allah is He Who made the earth a resting-place for you and the heaven a canopy, and He formed you, then made goodly your forms, and He provided you with goodly things; that is Allah, your Lord; blessed then is Allah, the Lord of the worlds.

Allah is He besides Whom there is no god, the Everliving, the Self-subsisting by Whom all subsist; slumber does not overtake Him nor sleep; whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth is His; who is he that can intercede with Him but by His permission? He knows what is before them and what is behind them, and they cannot comprehend anything out of His knowledge except what He pleases, His knowledge extends over the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of them both tires Him not, and He is the Most High, the Great.

at last when u need help search for guidance allah says:

So when they ride in the ships they call upon Allah, being sincerely obedient to Him, but when He brings them safe to the land, lo! they associate others (with Him);

My post about why the earth is here may answer some of your questions.
..... I can obviously see you want to talk about your beliefes, but you have no answers, just opinions. Plus you just bumped a 7 year old thread where the majority of members don't even come here anymore. Maybe lay off bumping threads unless you really are going to add something to it instead of referencing back to your other thread.

You are free to have to your opinions and I thank you for your suggestions, but to me I am contributing by mentioning the post I put so much time and effort into. Why rewrite it again when it can be read where it is? Rhetorical question here. I answer posts that I believe that I may contribute to. Yahweh is my only judge. Blessings...

The problem is you're actively searching threads, which works. But the ones you are bumping are 7 years old. The members you are quoting and talking to don't even come here anymore. It's fine sure, but you're literally bringing finished topics up with a plug in to your thread, which we can't post in because it's been locked. It would be better in my opinion to re-make the thread in another forum, so people can discuss with you. Sorta works better that way as I'm sure there are many people would enjoy talking with you about how you see things. But you're sorta overloading this forum with religious thread bumps.
It's a balance thing. Along with not overloading this section with one particular view point, it's better to leave old threads where no activety has been present alone. Reason being is when you re-activate them people will start posting in them again and quote older members who are no longer active or who have since changed their minds. If the topic intrigues you, it might be better to create a new thread and link to that particular thread after you share your peace. But necroing threads is not a good practice for reasons that aren't dramatic, but simply that somethings should just be left to rest.

I thank you for your reply and the time you took to type it. I now understand where you are coming from. I could rewrite the posts that I like the topics to. But it might seem like an over load of religious topics in any case because this is my favorite topic to talk about. What forum is best for this if not here? I am afraid that I assumed this is the only place for these discussions. Your suggestions are greatly appreciated. :)

To be honest here is the right place, but because you were posting consecutive posts after another it stopped the thread being about debate. I would just re-make a similar thread about something you want to discuss and make it one post. Just a word though, too much info can lead to a lack of participation from people in my experience, as the discussion has to go two ways.

I wrote a post to management requesting a strictly religious section for only religious topics. Do you think this would be a good idea?

Not really, I don't think isolation and seperation is a good idea. And I'm pretty sure they don't want to heavily expand upon religion here. Besides it being difficult to manage, there are a considerable number of people who have issues with religion, and alot of people who feel lost and who are in a vulnerable state. The problem is a section like that might become filled with threads that emit an attitude of "knowing" and having the answers, which can be dangerously counter-productive issue when someone needs to calm themselves. Or even become indirect written targets in peoples posts when they are having a difficult moment.

As much as stands, I think this forum is fine, it's done it's peace for quite sometime, and people whom are religious should feel free to post here at anytime. It's been ok for almost a decade in my experience, the only friction arises when someone openly states they "know" or have "answers" publically as opposed to within the context of their religious circle.
