I got put on them 2 weeks ago today. My first ever anti-deps. I've had insomnia and paranoia and increased depression hyperness, but I think (I hope) its levelled me out now. I just feel stable for now.

Like i said, i had the same affects too but they did wear off in time. Hopefully yours will too by the time you go back to the doctors.

Two months I've been on these now. My emotions are so all over the place, lately, really extreme and fast-changing. I'm jumping from extreme hyperness to utter despair in the course of days, which is different from the constant depression I had had for the previous few months, yes, but not better. It doesn't seem to be settling. Things are getting more extreme. Don't know what I'm going to do.

I have been on Citalopram for over a year now. I started out on 10mg. The third day on them I woke at 4am with sickness and diarroah and was highly anxious all day. That was the worst day, then for the nextwo weeks I was having night sweats, lost my appetite, nausea, insomnia. It settled after a fortnight. I then went up to 20mg, and then 40mg. Stayed on 40mg until now. It seems to have lost its effectiveness for me so I've recently cut down to 20mg again and am switching to another SSRI in a week.

Citalopram did make a difference, but only at 40mg for me anyway. The lasting side effects that didn't seem to go after the first fortnight were the night sweats, lethargy and on and off nauseous spells. Also feeling dizzy if standing up too quickly.

Dry mouth. It's kind of disgusting.

Seemingly more tired and lethargic throughout the day. I seem to be yawning much more than before, and also at a total lack of motivation to get any work done.

Random bursts of hyperactivity and restlessness-weird...

I was on this or about 6 months and the doctors exact words were "Donlt worry. This may make you more paranoid && suicidal but it's normal" Haha! I was like "I'm on this to stop me feeling that way"

I was lucky though. It didn't make me feel too much worse and when I did, it subsided within 3 days.

Yeah. I was on it for about 2 years. I had the liquid version and it used to make me sneeze lol

Meds && I are weird though. They'll start working and then 6 months-1 year later they'll stop so I have to keep swapping and changing lol

Did you gain any weight while you were on it? What was the withdrawal like? I've been on it for a few weeks now, and it makes me feel more relaxed at times. When I exercise, I sweat so much, but it's not such a big deal I guess. Wow, you're beautiful by the way.

the first doctor i saw said i was not depressed but in a "rut" and put me on 10mg of citalopram. Then i seen another doctor went to 20mg, then 30mg then 40mg back down to 30mg and now im back on 40mg.

To be honest, i think you do gain weight, (i dont know if its from these or the pill, as i take both) but i know for a fact ive put on a great deal of weight (ive not changed my eating habbits or anything)

Its a viscious circle, one reason for being depressed = weight, tablets = weight gain, what do u do?!

Ive not taken my tablets in a few days, i feel worse.
they tell u on the label that it can cause suicidal thoughts but they will die down, but if u forget to take any or dont take them then it gets bad. i feel really bad today and ive run out of tablets, i cant get anymore until next week cause the doctors is closed until monday.

I gained weight with risperdal, zxprexa, seroquel and now citalopram (I didn't gain weight with prozac). It's so annoying. I get the impression that I look like a retard when i'm out because i'm so sedated. I hate these drugs but ANYTHING (even being fat) is better than being acutely psychotic/depressed/manic.

Haha yeah, I take that back actually. At least people can't see that you're psychotic or depressed (unless you self harm) whereas EVERYONE would notice if you were fat. Anyway, fluoxetine doesn't cause weight gain, go for that!

i've been on citalopram for idk four months now and i take 60mg in combination with 150mg of lithium and that combo works really well for me. occasionally i experience deranged thoughts but it usually passes within a day. this has been a good med for me. i'm glad we tried it. i have tried i couldn't tell you how many others. most seem to work for a little while (a few months maybe) and then stop working, but with this one so far so good. take care
