I was just listening to a song and the next thing I knew, my playlist had moved forward about 15 songs. It's dissociation, and it happens quite a bit, though not as much as it used to.

I wonder, how many here have this problem?

If so, do you have a history of trauma (no need to go into details)?

Two different occasions I experienced this:
Short term, when fantasy takes over. I could read pages with my eyes but in my head continued the story differently. So I had to read again.... I considered this harmless.

Long duration on two occasions (I was abroad and lots, lots of stress) - where I cannot remember whole hours. When I "woke up" I was afraid I could have done something bad without knowing it... I considered this to be a very, very dangerous sign.

I did not have anything like this for years now - so when getting older, it seems, brain is cooling a little...

I call it “losing time.” I have a history of chronic early developmental trauma, but the problem of losing time is more recent, even after feeling better about managing PTSD than I was several years ago. I was dissociating much less, but since I have lost my job and my savings along with it, it’s worse than it’s ever been.

I have been working with my therapist on it. We’re approaching it as a compulsive behavior; I guess avoidance is one way to manage intrusive thoughts.
