It feels like I have a lump on my neck...

I had this one friend who died from neck cancer awhile ago and it feels like I have a lump on the side of my neck. Sometimes my neck hurts even when I'm not moving it. I don't know what it is and I don't want to seem silly if it's nothing. It could be a cyst but I don't even know if it's anything and I don't want to bother the doctor if it's my over-active imagination. What should I do?

Hi. U should definitely get it checked out. It may be nothing and then u will be doing a lot of worrying even tho it isn't serious. And just in case it is, that way u can get it treated right away.

I am sorry about your friend and I hope it is harmless and u feel better soon. <3

Thank you, Dawn. Part of me wants it to be something though so I won't have to be here any longer than I have to. If it gets too bad I will have it looked at. I know someone else who had a cyst on his neck and it was taken out.

Get it checked out @Aprilflowers7 take it from one who knows. And if you’re thinking that if it does turn out to be cancer then that’s an ‘easy’ option, I’m here to tell you it’s not.
Cancer sucks big time.
Do yourself a favour and go to the docs.

Ok, thanks! Well I had open heart surgery already and it's done me no good, I don't go to parties and I don't have any friends and my family hates me most of the time. It could just be a cyst or something little like that.

Well if it does turn out to be a cyst at least you’ll know one way or the other.
I don’t go to parties either so you’re it alone there.

I have had a lump on the side of my neck for about two years - it hurts sometimes. I had a scan and the doctor says its nothing to worry about and most neck lumps are just glands that get inflamed and don't go down. Get a scan to be sure but try not to worry too much :)

I told my mother and she felt my neck and said yes there was a bump but it was probably glands. I used to get ear infections a lot so maybe that is part of it. Just thought I'd let everyone know.

Well I told the dentist it felt like there was a lump on my neck and she felt my neck and said there was something there. So I'm going to have to go to the doctor in a few weeks.

No not yet. My mother keeps thinking it isn't a big deal so I haven't been to the doctor's. It is staying the same size but hasn't gotten smaller either.

In a more diplomatic way than @walkerbait95 i think you should ignore your mum and get it checked out. Hopefully it’s jithing but if it isn’t waiting is only delaying the inevitable.

Get checked for peace of mind.

Well I don't know if I should say it like that LOL. But she is usually my ride anyway. She never bought me a car sooooo I don't have transportation. There are transportation services but they are pretty bad and unreliable. I wouldn't recommend them myself.

Hey Apryl,

I just saw your post. Do Not ever delay getting a physical or mental issue/complaint evaluated.

First of all, there is always a better prognosis when an affliction is diagnosed early. Treatment options leading to a cure are more likely.

Second, don't ever feel like you are bothering a doctor as your health is the reason they went into the profession they did.

I hope it all works out for you.

I'm going to the doctor Thursday for a different issue and I'm going to bring it up. My mother said it just might be a gland but she doesn't seem to be bothered by it though I know someone who died from throat cancer. I also know other people who have gotten cysts in their throat. My dentist said if it doesn't grow any bigger then you probably don't have to do anything about it, although sometimes it hurts when I turn my head and it moves a little. But it might be nothing. So we'll see what it is on Thursday. I don't go to the doctor's till 2:20pm though, so if I'm on here before then, I haven't gone yet lol.
