Vegemite on toast. I actually wasn’t brought up with Vegemite but I learned to like it. If you don’t like Vegemite on toast here you get shunned.

My daughter is 16. She’s ok, just the usual ups and downs of a teenage girl I think.

Ok thanks (re pics). Aussie food hmm. Both my parents were born in Europe (Dad, England and Mum, Latvia). So I’m a first generation Aussie and was brought up with a lot of British influences. Tea was like mother’s milk to me and still is. In fact, I’ll make a cup now!

Thanks for opening up Walkerbait. As the new "Support around the world" forum has opened up, perhaps we could have a theme revolving around food, drink and culture from our home countries as well as those of interest to us?

This is traditional Welsh Cawl. Basically a stew that is often served for free in many local village pubs

Is vegemite the same as marmite?

It’s the equivalent but not the same. I had something called Promite as a kid but if my friends came over they were like “where’s the Vegemite?!”

ahh, so that's what "vegemite" is like and for. i've been to australia. went to it's supermart like Coles. saw vegemite and thought, "what is this?? for cooking? is this delicious?". in the end i didn't buy, bcos i didn't trust it enough x)

Hahahaha! It is quite a mysterious thing to outsiders @yonk. In all honesty, it’s not delicious, so you didn’t miss much.

Thank you. We are known as the “lucky country”. It certainly is, compared to many, but we are following in the footsteps of the USA, which a lot of people (including myself) aren’t happy about.

Speaking of breakfast foods...my favorite breakfasts were when I was in Japan....can't even begin to remember what all was on the buffet...but it was all simply delicious and discovered miso soup which is still my favorite...
