My Therapist Retired

After over 10 years of sessions with him, my therapist retired. Now I have to find a new one. My previous therapist was so good because we achieved such a close rapport with each other. He used to conduct meditation with me, a practice which I still continue to this day. In looking for a new therapist, I had to find one who accepts my particular insurance. After several days I found one and made an appointment for next week. Most of the therapists in that building include meditation, so it looks promising as far as duplicating the situation I had with my previous therapist. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Hello, I will keep my fingers crossed for you to find the therapist that works for you I just wish i cold find one that not only listens to me but looks at me while I am explaining how I am feeling about everything my life. I haven't been able to talk to a therapist in forever and I might need to start a search for a therapist soon. As for now I will cope with I am going through and jump on this forum for help or to vent when needed.

That must be tough, my first therapist changed career (from therapist to midwife) after I'd been seeing her for 6 years and that was tough. I found it really difficult to replace her, in fact I didn't really, I saw a few therapists after that, and for quite a while, but they weren't of the same calibre. I think if you see a new therapist it will be good to do the same things, but it will no doubt take quite a while before you can enjoy anything like the rapport you had with the old one - if that can ever be replicated, maybe it's best not to try and see it as a new thing. It could be a great new beginning for you! I'm sure you'll miss your old therapist, I still think about my 6 year therapist and wish I could talk to her, she knew me like the back of her hand and changed my life in the early days of the process.

Good luck @Winslow
Takes so much courage starting again. I hope this one is incredible
Even though You said courage, I'm still worried because it's a totally New therapist. At the same time, I don't have any choice because I have to continue my therapy. Hopefully I can develop the same rapport with the new therapist as I did with the previous.

Courage and bravery is precisely when there is fear. It doesn't take courage to do easy things.
I hope and pray that you work well with this therapist and can achieve your dreams.

Hi, Winslow. I’m sorry you have to go through the process of finding a new therapist. My doctor of many, many years retired a while ago. I have found a new therapist that I like very much...it took seeing a few different ones. Finally, the one I’m with now and I just “clicked.” You might feel it’s scary for a while, but I am hopeful you are going to handle it and find someone you can work with.

Finally met with my New therapist. Due to covid precautions, our future sessions will be done on remote. But today I met the new therapist in person so I could sign all the papers. At the same time, we had a very good conversation, from which I believe we struck a good rapport. I still miss my previous therapist, though, but the new one seems good. I'm optimistic.

I like your attitude with all this, its good to stay positive in these situations. I hope things do turn out as well as you hope. I just remember by attempts and how hit and miss they were. Im glad yours seems to be going better.

Today was my second session which is actually the first because the previous meeting was just to sign the forms and get acquainted. So it was actually today that I familiarized with my New therapist and went into detail about my mental aberrations so he knows who I am and what I am. I really believe that we started off smoothly and I told him that I find him quite pleasant. Hopefully we can build a rapport at least halfway as good as with my previous therapist.
