Colorado is a funny mixture of cultures. Here is a "this reminds me of" story: when on a very long drive of 1100 miles I stopped in a very, very, small town in MT because the truck needed fuel and we were really hungry. There was 1 place serviing food and it was open, so we went in. While I was ordering for me and my kiddo, about a dozen large trucks pulled up, and a bunch of cowboys and cowgirls (lol that sounds very strange because they were most certainly all grown-ups) came in fresh off some round up or whatever it's called. They were all wearing chaps and boots etcl, and it got quiet because I think the rest of us were sort of over-awed. Anyway so one of them ordered what I'd ordered: a turkey sandwich. My kiddo wanted the daily special which was a small locally grown steak; he was already becoming a Montanan. Apparently they were overheard ordering the turkey sandwich because after a deep silent pause a booming voice from the other booth said, You can't order that, nobody eats bird here.
At that point of course I hoped nobody saw the waiter placing the turkey sandwich in front of me, just the steak arriving for my son. Their conversation went along along the lines of, "since we've been chasing beeves around since dawn I can order anything I damn well please."
It was a really good turkey sandwich, but my son's steak was truly superb. He shared a bite with me.
So that was nothing at all about salad. Just a story from a few years ago.
