The creature
Have you seen it ?
It stutters and stalks,
lurking below light.
Hidden behind those of sterling flesh,
Of opal eyes and sculpted marble
Its sunken folds draw a face
downturned eyes spill loneliness
blotched skin over a bloated cage.
Its damp weight brushes and trails
It clings tight and
seeps into my stillness
In my every image it waits,
its ugliness opaque
Painted across my reflection,
my soul
inescapable, indistinguishable
I watch until my edges blur
until its mouth opens
and I am swallowed whole
…
