My dad tried to raise me to like and even play sports, but it didn’t work at first. He took me to see the nearby minor league hockey and baseball teams, but I didn’t really get too interested until I was about 12 and realized in gym class that hockey is cool (and I wasn’t too bad at floor hockey). He made me play soccer when I was 6 but I hated it back then. When I joined my college rugby team during undergrad, I really regretted not having played more sports as a child because I was terrible and unathletic, but I did have fun.

Basically I went from hating all sports and thinking they’re stupid to having a major research interest in the psychology of sport fans due to being one myself.
So I the end it came down to playing sports. I feel like most people who are into them don’t play. But maybe that’s just my experience. The only sport I did competitively was sailing and I couldn’t imagine watching it for fun. I’d probably end up fighting the kids or something. :/

Rugby is a wild ride. I don’t play but my friend used to ask me to practice with her, which was code for her tackling me and launching me into the sun. The only thing I have the advantage at in these sports is being speedy.
