Funny, this song is an enigma to me. One day it soothes my nerves and other days it puts me on edge.
Thanks for joining in! I have a lot of songs that have that same polarizing effect but songs like that seem to become my favorites because they are able to have such a strong effect on me for better or worse. They are never just in the background they take on the moment. Good song choice :)

Agreed! My personal favorites are the ones that make or break your soul.

Here's one of my favorite Steven Wilson's song. I love everything he collabs on, especially his work with Aviv Geffen on Blackfield.

As silly as it sounds comparing dinosaur sex to ones own possible downfall works in this song. At least for me. Me and my ex wife both really liked Emmy the Great. This is one of my favorite songs of hers and this was probably her least favorite haha. It is odd how it can work out like that. I think I found it meaningful and she found it goofy. So you can decide.

These roads, they lead as far as they can lead
That's why they're called the ways that make you free
Cranes are lifting cargo to the sea
They are the size the dinosaurs would be

Power station shivers, then it weeps
Bleeds onto the fields and kills the wheat
Harvest comes, but will we ever eat?
Power station shivers, then it leaks

And dinosaur sex led to nothing
And maybe we will lead to nothing
And dinosaur sex led to nothing
But we will lead as far as we can lead

These days I watch the screen for what I need
I take my food on trays across my knees
Leaves are always falling from the trees
I think I see my future in the leaves

And dinosaur sex led to nothing
And maybe I will lead to nothing
And dinosaur sex led to nothing
But I will lead as far as I can lead

I think I see the future when I sleep
The sky splits like an almond under feet
Skin is peeling off of us in sheets
I think I see the future when I sleep

And power stations shiver and they weep
They bleed onto the fields and kill the wheat
A sea of clouds is billowing in heat
Oh, harvest comes, and babies born with teeth
And skin is peeling off of us in sheets
I think I see the future when I sleep

And dinosaur sex led to nothing
And maybe we will lead to nothing
And dinosaur sex led to nothing
But we will lead as far as we can lead

Not sure why, but I love this damn song, and this version is the one I got stuck in my head. I like to sing it when driving, got it on my car flash drive.

Found this translation, should be ok.

Apple trees and pear trees went into blooming,
River mists began a floating flow,
She came out and went ashore, Katyusha!
On the lofty bank, on the steeply shore.

She came out and sang she song about
Her young friend, the bluish eagle from steppe
All about the one she dearly loved,
The one whose letters she treasured and kept.

Hey, a song, the song of the young girl,
Fly and go after the bright Sun,
Find a soldier on the distant borderlands
Say hello from Katya waiting long for him.

Let him remember the young and simple maiden,
Let him hear the song she now sings,
Let him protect his Motherland for sure,
And their love Katyusha will protect.

This song reminds me so much about how I feel when I watch my parents argue. It's like the lyrics are me trying to figure out where the other people are coming from.
Makes me feel understood in my confusion about love.
Simply Simple by Mother Mother
Take me lightly, I am not the way I ought to be
I'm just the way I got to be
Take me slowly, or else you may come by injury
I'll hurt you emotionally
Rock me baby, until my eyes are closed and I'm asleep
And then it's safe for you to leave.
Call me lazy, for I have yet to let my soul free
It's still very much in my reach, oh

I just wanted to unfold
Simply simple
I do everything I'm told
Keep it simple

You want babies, well here I am so why not aren't you pleased
With a big baby like me

And I'll throw a fit, and you'll trip to pick up after it
Domesticated bliss
Ain't it enough

I just wanted to unfold
Simply simple
I do everything I'm told
Keep it simple

Simple Simple
(Yeah yeah)
I do everything I'm told
I just wanted to unfold
Simply simple

Love Mother Mother. They are one of the few bands that make a point to come tour in my city which is not really known for attracting music. But they seem to like it here. They are coming soon. But I think I am too poor to get the tickets :/ I never really gave this song a thorough listen so thanks for sharing and getting that kind of perspective. That is one of the things I was hoping for starting this thread.

I've been outside
Invited in
But I couldn't abide
Wouldn't miss it again
Burning every bridge that I cross
To find some beautiful place to get lost
I had true love
I made it die
I pushed her away
She said please stay
Burning every bridge that I cross
To find some beautiful place to get lost
To find some beautiful place to get lost
Well I don't know where I'll go now
And I don't really care who follows me there
But I'll burn every bridge that I cross
And find some beautiful place to get lost
And find some beautiful place to get lost

I love most things absurd so here is a song to that! I actually memorized most of these lyrics. one of those songs I'll miss a line and then pick up on the next.

I see alien babies
I see soy protein
I see your finger reaching out
I see the world spinning
I see ginseng in bottles
I see Horseshoe crabs on shore
I see food being flowers
I see cheese I see more
I see alien babies
I see leeches in cans
I see forever glass noodles
I see jelly in your hand

I see mushrooms
Being born out of shrimps
I see mushrooms
Being born out of shrimps

I look at your jaw, it's dancing with me
Your jaw at the disco is all I see
To far away to touch it but too close to really try
Looking at your jaw I'm so happy I could die

I see silverfish
On the bathroom floor
Dancing ways around my feet
I see you opening the door
I see alien babies
I see you healing your wounds
I see pearl tapioca
I see little mushrooms
I see soft centered eggs
On our hotel plate
I see metamorphosis
I see the stuff that you ate

I see mushrooms
Being born out of shrimps
I see mushrooms
Being born out of shrimps

I look at your jaw, it's dancing with me
Your jaw at the disco is all I see
To far away to touch it but too close to really try
Looking at your jaw I'm so happy I could die

I look at your jaw, it's dancing with me
Your jaw at the disco is all I see
To far away to touch it but too close to really try
Looking at your jaw I'm so happy I could die

"You fondle my trigger than you blame my gun" - This song always makes me thing of my ex. So many people in our lives use our mental illness against us.. It's just so easy to just say that we're crazy rather than validate us in any way isn't it? I dedicate this song to miss Polly Anne today. ((((Poly Anne)))) I love you.

@Polly Anne

"Limp"

You wanna make me sick;
You wanna lick my wounds,
Don't you, baby?
You want the badge of honor when you save my hide
But you're the one in the way
Of the day of doom, baby
If you need my shame to reclaim your pride
And when I think of it, my fingers turn to fists
I never did anything to you, man
But no matter what I try
You'll beat me with your bitter lies
So call me crazy, hold me down
Make me cry; got off now, baby-
It wont be long till you'll be
Lying limp in your own hand
You feed the beast I have within me
You wave the red flag, baby you make it run run run
Standing on the sidelines, waving and grinning
You fondle my trigger, then you blame my gun
And when I think of it, my fingers turn to fists
I never did anything to you, man
But no matter what I try
You'll beat me with your bitter lies
So call me crazy, hold me down
Make me cry; get off now, baby-
It wont be long till you'll be
Lying limp in your own hand

I have successfully found the most bizarre artist on my music list right now.
Finding my favourite song, Cold, wasn't possible. The only video I found was taken off the internet because of copyright issues.
However, this one is just as 'tribal' sounding which is the reason that Cold is my favourite.
How does Inuit throat singing with an industrial sounding vibe to it sound? Well, you can find out.

Sad story about Tagaq.... It was the second worse concert I have ever went too and it ruined her music for me :( She came on and did three or four really good songs but she was obviously a bit tipsy. She said she would be back to perform more and so the co-main came on and performed a full set. Tagaq came back on but only to kind of hang around with the other performer because at that point she was obviously too drunk to preform. It ended with them calling asking if there were any "MC's" in the house because the other performer with her was a hip hop artist there was so as soon as some smuck from my city went to go up stage me and my wife left. I was so disappointed. The songs that she did perform were great. There are three bands that I lost respect for out of bad or rude performances. It is really sad she is one because she is talented and that is a great song. But I am pretty unforgiving...

I had no idea that even happened. That's a shame, really.
Then again we are all human, so it doesn't surprise me that someone would end up drinking so much that they lost the ability to be on a stage. The weird thing about me is that I expect people to be messed up somehow, I've never really met a human that ever had everything together. Not only that but my family has a bunch of alcoholics in them so I can empathize the fact that she must have been going through a lot of pain to put herself in a position like that.
That sucks, I'm sorry that you had a bad concert with her and also if I brought up any painful memories for you I also apologize. That wasn't my intent.

No no. no bad memories were brought up. I meant more sad in the sense that it happened and ruined her image for me a bit. I struggle with alcoholism, it runs in both sides of the family, but to me that is like being drunk on the job. to be the headliner and only play 4 or five songs is disrespectful to your fans that came. We were really excited to see her live and it was just really disappointing.

@ghosTea Yeah, spending money on a concert that didn't turn out well is very disappointing.

On that note, here's something that makes me want to dance and smile every time I hear it!

since you brought up throat singing @Snake on the Moon I really like Tuvan throat singing. This woman has been around for a long time and her work ranges from very traditional to experimental. So maybe you will find it interesting one way or the other. I find her voice very hypnotic. Love the throat singing in the second video the most.

I was really sad this morning but I began to feel better :) Here is an upbeat song from my collection. Now I am going for a walk :)

I can't wait till the summer comes along,
I'll open up my door and the snow will be gone.
People everywhere are sayin' hello,
Married couples stop all that yellin' at eachother,
Birds are singin' their song and I'm singin' mine
While I'm walkin'.

Pavement gets boilin' hot, I
Gotta give in, put on some shoes and
Wade through people yellin' the news in
Ties and Business Suits.
But I keep walkin' along and
Hummin' out my walkin' song I'm
Wearin' holes in the soles of my
Brand new boots.

Kickin' on a beer can, clickity clack.
Keepin' it bouncin' will keep it alive.
Think of all the bubbles somebody must have drank.
The bubbles turned to burps in somebody's insides
While I'm walkin'.

I like to take my time and look in all the windows.
Pretend that I got money to buy what's in the windows,
Lookin' at the ladies, all dressed up in the windows,
Watchin' the laundry comin' out of all the windows,
Watchin' the cops puttin' tickets on the windows
While I'm walkin.

I think I'll keep on hummin' 'cause the day was made for runnin',
I never learned the title of the song I always sing,
While I'm walkin'.
It's somethin' about hitchin' rides and
Dusty roads and country sides and
Sand that gets between your toes,
A real walkin' tune.
And shufflin' through the meadow grass,
And watchin' out for bees and glass,
And wadin' through an icy stream,
A song about you.

since my taste in music is plain weird (can go from country to death metal to rap to 50s music) this one is right up my alley. Living free is what it's all about. Got an outlaw in me too.

I'm Just A Driftin' Soul Here I Go Lock N' Load Hit The Road
And It Don't Matter If I'm Ready 'Cause I Got To Go
I Stay Strapped Up I Got My Boots Tight
I'm Fully Focus Man I Got My Head Right Sometimes I Feel Like A Stranger In My Own Mind
I'm Not A Follower I Make My Own Line If It's My Last Night I Hope God Lets Me In
Tell Him I Was A Good Man, Tell Him I Was A Good Friend
Some Want To See The Light, Some Want To Be The Thunder
Some Like To Play At Night
I Can't Sit Back And Wonder They Don't Know What They Got Till It's All Gone
An I'm Gonna Ride Till I'm Called Home

I Got The Wind On My Face
Hell On My Heels
It's That Devil Deep Inside An I Just Can't Kill
It's That Good Man I Just Can't Be
There's Nothin' Left In The Mirror But A Trace Of Me
Just Livin' My Life
Momma Taught Me Wrong From Right
No Apologies I'm Alright Livin' Free It's Just The Outlaw In Me

I Know I'm An Outcast Throw Me Off The Wagon
They Label Me A Problem Momma I Don't Know What Happend
Got Me Draggin' 'Round My Past I Put My Middle Finger Up
And Every Police That I Pass Harassin' Followin' My Truck
So I Hung Out With Them Boys On The Wrong Side Of The Tracks
Started Drinkin' Started Fightin' Started Liking Bein' Bad
Man I Only Took A Drag Now I Smoke 'em By The Pack
First The Devil Drags You In Then He Stabs You In The Back
You Didn't Listen To Me Did You Boy
Guess You Got To Learn Like A Sign Is Tryin' To Tell You Up Ahead Is Goin' To Burn
So For Everything It's Worth Y'all I'm Sorry 'Bout My Past
I Didn't Know The Things I've Done Would Come And Bite Me In My Ass

I Got The Wind On My Face
Hell On My Heels
It's That Devil Deep Inside An I Just Can't Kill
It's That Good Man I Just Can't Be
There's Nothin' Left In The Mirror But A Trace Of Me
Just Livin' My Life
Momma Taught Me Wrong From Right
No Apologies I'm Alright Livin' Free It's Just The Outlaw In Me

Oh I Got That Open Road
Heavy Steel This Rebel Soul Is Hard To Kill
So Tell The Law To Come An Get Me
On A Steel Horse Riding Through Dirty Sin City

I Got The Wind On My Face
Hell On My Heels
It's That Devil Deep Inside An I Just Can't Kill
It's That Good Man I Just Can't Be
There's Nothin' Left In The Mirror But A Trace Of Me
Just Livin' My Life
Momma Taught Me Wrong From Right
No Apologies I'm Alright Livin' Free It's Just The Outlaw In Me
