I recommend acupuncture here ad nauseum, but it works great for treating pain.

There are some recommendations here from a Consumer Reports article about treating chronic pain.

I can say more about acupuncture if you are interested.

It's probably best to only consider opioids as a last resort.

I hope something can help.

Community acupuncture clinics and teaching clinics are much cheaper. Sometimes you can even get free treatments at teaching clinics.

If you do a search for acupuncture schools in your area, there's usually a link to a teaching clinic from a school's homepage. Some schools will offer income-based discounts, or offer free treatments generally. Also schools will often offer free theater treatments (treatment by a faculty member while students observe), though these treatments are not necessarily widely advertised.

You can find community-style clinics by searching online, but www.POCAcoop.com (US) and www.acmac.org (UK) have listingings of community clinics affiliated with their organizations.

I'm not sure where you are, but if you'd like to tell me, I might be able to help you find listings for clinics.

I hope something can help

@may71 makes some excellent suggestions... acupuncture really does work. I had treatment at a training clinic (free) went for a few weeks as a 'case study' and it really helped. Needles in places that I thought 'why?' - but apparently there is a reason why judging by their conversations, and it helped so much, so I was very happy.
Hope your mum is doing ok and that you are doing well too
