Practical Advice Auvelity and/or Spravato for Major Depressive Disorder

I’m curious about experiences or information regarding Auvelity and Spravato as I will be taking both for treatment-resistant depression once I receive coverage. I’ve tried Prozac, Cymbalta, Zoloft, Viibryd, and Celexa, among several other antidepressants and adjunctive medications (like Seroquel and Vraylar) to no effect.

Furthermore, I’m seeking Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which my psychiatrist recommended. If anyone has tried CBT, please feel free to let me know how that went.

You might want to read a book about CBT both because it could benefit you directly and also give you a better sense of what CBT is about.

This book is one of the most highly recommended CBT books for depression:

Mind Over Mood, Second Edition: Change How You Feel by Changing the Way You Think
Dennis Greenberger, Christine A. Padesky

Thanks. Apparently the local library keeps a copy. I’ll check it out whenever it’s available.

Hi. I’m curious if you had your first Spravato treatment yet and if so how was it and how have you been feeling since having it. I also have TRD plus anxiety and PTSD and I’m having my first treatment on Monday so I’m a bit nervous but also hopeful that it will give me some relief. Thanks.

Not yet. All this time I had been chasing my tail in an attempt to get my insurance to cover it. My first appointment is in a few weeks, but I might be able to come in sooner now that it’s covered. The likelihood of getting relief was definitely the driving force. I’d be interested in hearing how it goes for you.

Same with my insurance, took forever to get it approved. I will definitely let you know how it goes for me.

Heading to my 4th Spravato treatment today and I know I’m only halfway through my first month but I haven’t felt any benefit from it. If anything I feel worse because I’m so wore down for days afterwards that I’m really short with myself and anyone around me. I’ve had people close to me notice it too. I’m still holding out hope that it will help in the long run but after 30 years of dealing with my mental illnesses I worry maybe it’s been going on for so long that nothing will help me.

Sometimes I feel like it's not something you have to fight, but just find a use for yourself and start doing good for people. But that is easier said than done.

Doctor took me off of Spravato due to no noticeable relief and actually regressing into a deeper depression. So now I feel stuck in the same old crappy life without any hope for even a little relief from my TRD (and other mental illnesses). Cost me over $2200 and I’m right back where I started. I hope that anyone else that gets this treatment that it works for you. For me, I don’t know where to go next. Kinda just giving up on having any hope of getting any better.

I’m sorry that happened to you. Has your provider presented other options, like transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) or electroconvulsive therapy (ECT)? My psychiatrist mentioned that ECT has a 90% response rate, though he considers it a last resort due to the risks. TMS on the other hand is much safer and much less invasive, though I think the response rate is similar to, if not somewhat better than, Spravato. Unlike Spravato, TMS isn’t some fancy drug brand, so I assume starting treatment isn’t as roundabout. Overall, I think either of those is at least worth looking into and discussing with your provider, so please don’t give up.

As for the costs of your treatment, were you not placed in the Spravato withMe Savings Program or Observation Rebate program? My copay for each refill was still over 280$, but the savings program reduced it to 20$.

In my opinion (which won't be popular with doctors) there should be some sort of refund. I've heard so many words about responsibility that people have said to me. Why shouldn't doctors be held responsible for their actions?
