Avoidance to Cope

Do you ever avoid doing something because you don't want the stress of thinking about it or knowing for sure what you think is dreadful news.

On the same hand, not addressing the issue sooner make matters worse (although you don't know if it is even bad).

Example 1 - don't read/ listen to text/voice messages because you don't want to face the possible unwanted information
OR
Example 2 - don't open mail because you don't want the stress of dealing with turmoil. (Mail from a landlord etc.)

You often want someone else to listen/read it but don't tell you what it is yet.... but then your anxious because you are somewhat eager to know.

How have you dealt with tactic?

I went through a period of about 2 years avoiding calls/letters from my family. Everything they phoned I wouldn't answer and deleted the voicemail without even listening to them. Any letters went into my cats litter tray so I couldn't read them πŸ˜‚
But then I'd be like what did they say? After 2 years of this I was woken up by a knock on the door. It was the police telling me my mother was dead and I needed to contact my family.
Now I wonder if I did the right thing avoiding them but of course it's too late to fix it now

2 years.... wow.....that was perseverance right there.. πŸ‘πŸ½πŸ‘πŸ½
If your reasons of avoidance was because of your mental health....is that not 'the right thing'?
Or do we cause added anxiety when we avoid

Do you have any regrets?

What if you ignore letters from the bank because you haven't paid the mortgage.
Then when you finally open the letter....it was work out options that are now expired ...
Instead of what you thought was a foreclosure notice.
Now you're in foreclosure...😬

Yeah I do have regrets for avoiding them because I have no way of getting answers now but I also feel better knowing they can no longer hurt me.

That doesn't sound good. Can you contact the bank and explain the situation about your mental health? They are supposed to try harder to help you if you suffer from MH. At least that's the way it is in the UK. I know when I had problems paying the mortgage on my house they bent over backwards to try to help me.
I really hope they are able to help you
