Broken heart

I woke up this morning in one of those states, deeply wishing I wasn't here more than anything else. I got out to the grocery store and happened to see a manager I hadn't seen in quite awhile and I thought to ask her about Mario. I hadn't seen him in quite some time, I've known him for about 20 years, he was produce manager and he and I used to have lots of nice talks. I knew he had been really looking forward to retiring this year and I thought maybe that's why I wasn't seeing him any longer. Rebecca gave me the news that he had died suddenly of a heart attack. I'm so sad. For him and his family. And my thoughts immediately after sadness go to why couldn't it have been someone like me instead of him. I want to, am ready to go. I would have gladly traded places. It just doesn't make any sense.

Sorry to hear of your news and the difficult feelings it had brought up. It does seem so unjust and nonsensical that people who really want to live die, and people who want to die, live. It feels sad to lose someone you knew for all those years, I'm sorry. *console

My close friend, one of the best people I ever knew, died at age 36 a few years ago. He'd conquered a serious mental illness and also alcoholism, and was hoping to rebuild his life, have a career in computing, get married and raise a family. He was a volunteer webmaster for a mental health site and spent many hours maintaining it - the type of person who would help anyone with any problem with such patience.

Instead he got an ugly death alone in his flat from a hemorrhage. His death was pronounced as cirrhosis of the liver due to alcoholism, yet he hadn't drank in many months and had another severe physical illness that affected his liver (sarcoidosis - with granulomas throughout his body)). I believe the coroner may have neglected to dissect his liver and just pronounced his cause of death based on the external appearance. I don't think he died from alcoholism. I discussed it with my doctor and she said that is actually quite likely.

My point is it's just not damn fair. None of it. I hope my friend and all good people who have died are in a good place. I hope one day we see them again.
