Circumstance caused suicidality

#1
Greetings all. A little about myself. 4 attempts, only the last one had intent as I experienced a breakdown. Uncontrollable crying and sick to the stomach. That was about 4 weeks ago... situation has deteriorated sharply since...

Phycological and physiatrist treatment has failed, suicide helplines have failed. I'm not surprised. My mental health isn't to blame.

60% of male suicides in the USA are done by men with NO history of depression. What this means is they simply woke up one day and decided that life was no longer worth living just like me.

The medical field doesn't have any knowledge this exists however this "type" or cause of suicidality is known in the field of economics.

So I started brainstorming... What would effective treatment even look like for myself and others like me?

And so I wrote the below paper on this subject:

I would like to know what you all think of this?

I read the paper. Spot on. For the second time in life im losing a job due to company being sold. Never thought it would happen. Owner was so loyal. Now I’m screwed. Horrific job market. Even frenkl recognized the importance of work? I didn’t know that. It’s insane. The world is crumbling.
I know I can’t survive this and yet I don’t just kms already I don’t know what to do.

I know your pain. I've been stuck with a part time job for around a year. Haven't been able to get full time. Things are looking really bad.

Unfortunately this is never highlighted in mental health month 😔

Been thinking of starting a change.org petition to highlight exactly this and solutions. But I have no social media reach unfortunately 😮‍💨

I mean people don't get depressed for no reason and don't get suicidal for no reason. There's no such thing as suicidality not caused by circumstances
For traumatic events caused suicidality, physiological and psychiatrist treatment makes all the sense in the world. For depression caused by anything else it's completely useless. Tell that to depression month.

If I was you I would contact your suicide helplines and tell them you need a job so they realize just how limited their treatment is and you can ask them "Don't you have a national network of recruitment agencies and businesses" otherwise do you only help truma caused depression and nothing else? (Be respectful and great full) This will force them to consider how limiting their help is and how much more effective it could be.

Unfortunately all mine did after I told them that after a year I've given up looking for a job is say "find a job" 🤦... No du!... would I be calling you, a suicide helpline, if I could simply "find a job"?

Keev-Kun I understand. I lost my job in April through no fault of my own. When Trump came in and let Elon Musk start destroying government agencies it was like a hit on my job. I am depressed but not giving up, At least not yet. And its not just men, its women too.

Don't give up.

I absolutely know this definitely impacts women too, was just trying to find the most extreme verifiable statistic to emphasize a point... I'm sorry for what you are going through. Unemployment but specifically poverty (working full time as "the working poor" with no dignified standard of living included) is something that has been so close to my heart for years.

Wrote a solution paper on that too, I'd be honored to hear your thoughts about this too? Especially combined with extensive unionization for best wages and working conditions.

Unfortunately I've kinda given up on life some time ago. Being a minority in a country (South Africa) with a 3rd of it's population unemployed excluding those like myself who have given up looking for work. With over 140 race based laws against me including enforced racial quotas that work strongly against me. (There's a lot of rubbish that should absolutely be addressed but there definitely isn't a genocide 🤦) I was born after apartheid, I am only a second generation immigrant with my family traced back to Switzerland, we didn't benefit from colonialism, Switzerland DID NOT colonize any country but I'm still blamed for it as part of a collective and punished for it (WHY ON EARTH MY FAMILY DECIDED TO MOVE FROM A PEACEFUL 1ST WORLD COUNTY TO SOUTH AFRICA TO BE A MINORITY, ILL NEVER KNOW), I'm simply unemployable due to enforced BEE laws and aimless. I highly Doubt next year will be better infact I expect it to be so much worse. Terrifying even. A year I definitely dread seeing.

Then romantically, being a minority. Just as big a problem with 93% of the country taken out of my dating pool... With dating apps being beyond awful and useless... Loneliness feels very permanent and lifelong 😔

Anyway, apologies for ranting. I hope you get a job and I hope it pays well.

Please please please go on Google maps or Google and look for recruitment agencies. Online job searches unless you stand out with qualifications waste a lot of time. If you can, outsource your work as a contractor for whatever you do. And please speak with social workers (Assuming they weren't stupid enough to get rid of these too 🤦😮‍💨, how the UBI (universal basic income) political candidate didn't win I'll never know)

Of course circumstances are a huge factor, but sometimes they may be a little unclear. A person might appear to have a good job, home, family, all the rest of it, but still they are suicidal. Why is this? We naturally compare ourselves to others, and other people compare us to other people. It's not as simple as the "stop comparing yourself to others" advice you may have got from someone or a self-help book. So an apparently successful person may be depressed because they are comparing themselves to their supposedly more successful friends, relatives, peers, whoever.

Other factors may be mental and / or physical issues that make it difficult for a person to "succeed". Or they might succeed in one area but be depressed about their lack of success in another area or two.

Yet another factor is toxic people. Someone may have a good job on paper but in reality a toxic person or people is creating a horrible environment at work, and manipulating everyone so that it's hard to take action against them. The person may not be able to get a job elsewhere for various reasons. I think it would be good if companies etc. made it very easy for people to transfer to a similar job elsewhere.

Use agencies but don't get your hopes up if they talk about getting you a job or an interview or whatever. I was once told I was a good candidate and they had an interview for me. I got there and the company had never heard of me lol.
