My mother passed away suddenly almost 7 years ago. The aftermath of her death was very traumatic; considering that she was in her early thirties, there was no cause of death, and she left behind a teenage daughter just before Christmas, it was something that gathered a lot of attention. It was in many newspapers and was on the front page of a few. I had a lot of attention from people and very much had to grieve in front of people. As a result, I hate showing my own feelings and dealing with other people’s when it comes to topics like this. Since my mother’s death, I haven’t had to deal with a family death - until today. Unlike my mother, I was anticipating his death (even though it was just by a day). For some reason, it is reminding me a lot of the aftermath of my mother’s death. I feel overwhelmed about the funeral and the fact that I’m going to have to do more or the less the same things again. I’m currently away at university and I feel as though I should go home for a day or two, but the thought of going home and being in that type of environment again is making me feel very uncomfortable and is upsetting me a lot. I know this time is so different to when my mother died, but I’m still finding it difficult. I feel selfish for making this about me when it’s clearly not this time.
