I’ll follow the trend and say my family are the things I treasure the most. Having recently lost both my parents I treasure things which make me feel close to them. Silly little things sometimes, but things which were theirs and things I remember from my childhood, being around the house. I have tea towels and clothes, small bits of jewellery a cake tin and a set of wooden stilts. Nothing of value other than to me, as I know these items belonged to them and have memories attached.
So I suppose I treasure my family and my memories of time with my family.
Something I have realised since my parents passing, that when you’re gone, belongings don’t matter. All the things in their home which they treasured and argued over, collected and kept safe, are now just objects to be dispersed. Why do we cling onto objects? I suppose the objects link to our memories. It’s the memories that are important and should be treasured and passed on to our children.
