Goodbye my friend

I just found out tonight that a good friend of mine passed away after a short battle with cancer.

You were older, but you didn't seem old to me. There was nothing frail about you. Vibrant is a word that comes to mind. Warm, genuine, caring are some more. I didn't even know you were sick. You seemed fine when I saw you a few weeks ago. I'd been worried when everything shut down for COVID, then so glad to see you were ok. I thought you were ok..

They say you passed away in your sleep. I hope it was peaceful. I hope you were surrounded by your loved ones. I fucking wish you were still here. You were one of the good ones.

I went on Sunday to skating as usual. I sat on a bench to get my skates on, then realised I was sitting in the exact place you were the last time I talked to you. Dammit. Just dammit. I don't make friends easily, but you were my friend. All the comments say what a lovely person and true gentleman you were. So many people are just devastated by the news. There's a ton of people that you were closer to then me, but you were my friend for a good 7 or 8 years. I still can't believe you're really gone.
