It is Independence Day in the US. So Happy 4th to our US folks. It might be called Ungrateful Colonists' Day in the UK though lol

I love my country very much. I have fond memories of July 4th and bottle rockets and sparklers in the back yard (thats a no no now though).

Do you have any fond memories of July 4th US folks?

True, it's disturbing how unbridgeable some of the current divisions seem to be. Some people are even losing lifelong friends. It's almost like Iran vs. Israel and other cases where they can't "agree to disagree" and may even seek the other's destruction.

Nonetheless, I believe it's possible to overcome this. Given the Civil War, America seems to have withstood worse. We do need the right sort of leader, perhaps a Lincoln-esque figure.

I mainly remember the cookouts, eating watermelon and often a trip down the road to the lake for boating, swimming and fishing. I never cared much for fireworks but this area is normally in a drought and with the winds typically quite risky. Where I live I am a pup at 57 years and the old farts(myself included) do prefer earlier to bed than when I was younger. LOL

I chilled at home yesterday. Ate some bacon ranch chicken salad we picked up at Aldi the other day, napped a fair amount, and then in the evening I could see the fireworks off in the distance out my window.
