Help, I'm Desperate

#1
My story is a lot so please feel free to go through my past threads to understand.

I don't want to kill myself. I see it as the only way out of my despair and anguish at this point.

I need solid reasons to live. I need to have a purpose again, something I'm working to achieve that I care about. I know I can't ask online strangers for this. But if you've read my story, I need a way to find a career again. I'm out of options. I'm not going back to school, not after all the education I already have.

Is there some unusual/outside-the-box type of career I can have with my credentials? Something that lets me significantly help people in acute/traumatic conditions. Something that changes lives. Something that pays enough to cover my student debt. It can even be in another country.

I've spent my entire adult life working towards becoming a doctor. There just isn't anything else I've found out there that I want to do. I'm at a loss.

You've made an interesting point about moving overseas to find your new life. It depends on whether you are open to that sort of adventure. Most country's immigration websites will describe the various kinds of work, etc., visas their government offers. I know from experience there can be a considerable number of hoops to jump through. But going through that process might provide an interim purpose.

There's an organization that specializes in helping (mostly relatively young people with degrees) find social service careers. I can't remember the name of it though. I could try to search for it online if you'd like.

I think there's definitely something out there for you, it's just a matter of finding it. I hope something can help.

Try starting by finding some not-so-solid reasons to live. Maybe a delicious roll, a good movie, or some music—isn’t that at least a little something?
Small reasons will add up to bigger ones.
After all, it’s never too late to dedicate yourself to a higher purpose. Is there anything stopping you?
Yes, the government of this country who took my license is stopping me.

The little things do not help anymore. My baby bunny was the only one keeping me going until he passed a few weeks ago. Then I lost almost all my will to live.

Please do it's worth a try. Although my experience with social workers is that they are underpaid, undervalued and burnt out too.

My country doesn't accept my degree and I'd have to almost start over. Plus, I missed the deadline for this year which puts my old career on hold for 3 more years. I'd definitely die at that point.

I've looked into New Zealand, Australia, Canada.... any country where I speak the language. It's not looking good because I haven't finished residency so that's making it almost impossible.

I wish I knew what my purpose was. I just want to get back to working on that. Instead I'm stuck at home all day with no income, nobody to talk to, no way out of this that I can see.

Sometimes you just need to do nothing. Don't beat yourself up over it.
If you want to get back to working on your goals, just do it. Is there anything stopping you?

There is a website called "the student doctor" (I don't know the exact url offhand, but I think it could be thestudentdoctor.com or something similar).

Since most of the people there are medical students, prospective medical students, or doctors, they may have some insights about residency and career issues.

I can't guarantee that they'd be supportive, but presumably they'll be knowledgeable.

I am sorry that you're going through so much pain and tension 😕
I do not have the means to help you but I wish you find a way out.
This kind of stuff really fucks you in the head.

I know that website. I've used it when I was premed. I want to stay off though for my own privacy. Thanks for offering it though.

The organization I was thinking of is 80000hours.org

I just saw an ad for it online a long time ago, so I can't vouch for it, but it might be worth looking into. I was able to find it again by doing a search for "most impactful careers", and there were some other interesting results, including some research from Stanford.
It looks interesting. I'll give it a thorough read through. Thanks
