Hello @MystriumCamillae welcome to SF, glad to meet you!

In the US the basic guidelines are the therapist/psychiatrist gauges the level at which the suicidal thoughts are presenting. Thoughts without a plan, getting a plan, obtaining a method, you see the progression? Many people struggle with thoughts, but are frightened of talking about them with mental health professionals. As @Gonz pointed out, it's important to have a therapist one can trust.

That said, I've had emergency services called on me twice, but both times I was mid attempt. I am glad my therapist did and that I gave myself a chance to get better.

Hope this helps, Angie

In principle, you could ask your therapist under what conditions she would compel a patient to be hospitalized.

The standards for hospitalization may also vary from country to country.

I think typically it's unlikely that you'd be forced to go to the hospital unless you've formed a plan, have gathered methods, or are otherwise at high risk for an attempt.

It's expensive to hospitalize someone, so unless you've got good insurance, a hospital would probably try to discharge you as soon as possible. I've also heard of instances of people outright asking to be hospitalized and being refused.

I also think it is unlikely, unless you make it clear that you are having these feelings right now, not before. Even if it wasn't that long ago. But she will take the time frame into some consideration, and as someone else mentioned, your level of impulsivity. She will have to come to her own conclusion about whether or not it's likely that you may feel that way again at some point soon. But I honestly don't think you'll end up in the hospital, unless you phrase what you say to her in a way that makes her think you need to be.
