this seems to be a common theme on SF. there can be many reasons to be tired. but usually fall into two categorys physical or emotional and often both.

the first is physical. if we have a chronic llness or chronic pain it can hollow us out from the inside. in these cases we can spend so much time dealing with these issues it makes us very tired. and chronic issues usually leads to mental health issues like depression and anxiety. that was the case for me.

the second being mental health issues . if we suffer from depression, anxiety, ocd, ptsd, or one of the hundreds of other mental health issues it drains the life right out of us. most of the time we fight to feel less bad and to feel well is a huge mountain.

so we have to keep fighting to get better but we have to try to avoid letting things drag us down so much that we are too tired to function. tell us how you are fighting to get out of being so tred that life seems impossible. tell us your story and hints to make it better

You have so much incite and helpful tips, tricks, advice, and knowledge. i appreciate you and i know nearly everyone else does as well.

Mine started as mental health when i was very young (single digits) due to some things that happened at a very young age. Then my medical kicked in as a pre-teen... and things just got worse from there. Some call it a self eating watermelon... mental making medical worse making mental worse n so on... It has been nearly 50 yrs of battling... and i am soooo tired! Yes i agree with all you have said there... however i no longer have the ability to fight.

my biggest fight i had was so my kids could be raised the way i wanted them to be. If i didn't do it, it wouldn't get done. my kids are now adults. i am no longer needed for that. i have tangible responsibilities... bills, a car payment, a house payment... all of which are truly not important then it comes down to it.
So i no longer have tricks or tips on how to help, because what used to keep me going is no longer needed.

I was worried when saw the title of this! I'm currently feeling exhausted due to benzo/pregabalin withdrawals, work stresses, life stresses and overwork/burnout from a while ago, and also currently a bad spate of insomnia.

The usual advice is to get plenty of sleep but insomniacs find that impossible sometimes. I try to eat well, meditate/deep rest if I can't sleep, and counterintuitively, exercise really does help fire up the mitochondria, the energy powerhouses of the body, even though it might seem it would make someone more exhausted. Sometimes it's the only thing that keeps me sane. I know many people will struggle to exercise due to health problems, am not sure what to suggest in that case.

No longer suicidal after 8 years of depression
#4
I suffered from chronic fatigue when I was depressed and suicidal for an 8 year period

I would eat like garbage, sleep at like 4am and wake up around 3pm and do nothing but lay on my couch all day and always felt sad and miserable.
Now I eat healthy, wake up 5-6 am every day, and hit the gym twice a day and feel so much better, anxiety and depression is completely gone

I am hoping my story gives some of you guys hope! Of course, I am only 30, and for people in the older ages it might be more difficult. But I believe with hard work, fixing your diet and sleep, and regular exercise and keeping gratitude journals, you can drastically improved your tiredness and quality of life

Don't give up, I was so close to giving up and now I am glad i didn't. Good luck everyone

Hi Mike,

your words are wise and relevant as always. I am struggling to find the correct answer for myself to be frank with you… the one thing I don’t really have anymore is a greater sense of purpose. I need to find this before I can hand on heart give you answers I know to be true. I guess ultimately if we don’t go with the pace of it all we’ll need find the answers we need.

Black sheep of my family....

I know you as a very strong person, devoted to love and your family. I think, you forgot one thing your list: Tired of physical and emotional stress, that leads to mental sickness, Now being old, I guess this is another factor, Not that I am handicapped or not fit - but its getting boring, because you have done and seen it already all, And everything of the past is gone. The world is not the same and places I could go years ago without any problem, are now an absolute no-go.

I do not want to leave (normally, I have phases its hard and I would like to die) but I am not afraid of it any longer. I will go the way like the 300 billion people who lived since Jesus walked the earth.

When I fail - I know that I will fail for 2 days - first by accident, second because I give a shit. Then on the third day (normally) I know what to change and to do and do it, Whatever it costs (not money, but power). I have two huge advantages here in Europe - if you suffer from such a pain like you, you get the correct medication, No pain and you will sleep a lot.
The same applies to medication for mental health - and most of the time we all know what is best for us.

Tired are for me the situation in which we find ourselves. I mean, 50 years ago the world was completely different. You could travel where you wanted, hardly any risk, clean water, no climate change, ozon hole, overfishing etc. And every day now, something new is coming. Now our planet is on the brink of being destroyed and that bothers me. It hurts me. I am waiting every day - what will happen now. And I could cry. I myself do as much as I can to help - poor people, helping, I do a lot of sport, walk a lot (long distance, Nordic walking), I live as an absolute minimalist, I do not even eat (I only life on juice - attention: this is not meant for people with eating issues, ok?).

This sometimes (and now more and more often) gives me the feeling - I do not want no more. I think Paul said it very well in 2 Timothy 4: the time for my departure is near. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.

I hope I can say one day (soon) the same thing. Enough.

Here my feeling - and my guitar weeps as welll:

I’m just seeing this post. Thanks, You nailed it. In regard to the first part of explanation with physical medical diagnoses and the manifestations and fallout. It is part of why when waking at 3, which has become the abnormal norm, and having some overt challenge this morning from the illnesses I have made me think I just need to leave this life and soon, I’m tired of it and didn’t deserve getting these particular illnesses so a little pity in there as well.

With regard to the second aspect….Being alone and not having much consistent engagement with caring and loving from other humans I believe strongly exacerbates the disconnect from wanting to be alive bottom line.
No man or woman is an island no matter how much faith one has. We were not meant to be or end up alone in this life walk even though death always happens alone there is the idea that someone will be holding your hand at least, Most spiritual writing attests to this.
