I've been talking to my therapist about this. Sketchy behaviour of my upstairs neighbor. Who has been driving me crazy at all hours of the night with blaring music.

I always hear loud music( possibly to mask the noise)and things being moved around like big tubs and junk upstairs. Literally ALL hours of the day. 3am. 10pm 6am 3pm. You name it. It's constant thumping and dropping things and moving heavy things upstairs. And music.

I just heard a huge scuffle and shouting upstairs and she kicked two people out. 1 guy holding many laundry detergent containers. And 1 lady who is obviously homeless and they both are obviously on drugs..... and they put all their stuff from upstairs into a shopping cart and left.

I've seen countless people coming in and out of her unit these past months. Always different. Carrying suitcases, boxes, bags, strollers. Etc.

I think my upstairs neighbor is selling drugs and making them. I just realized now. ( I don't smell anything like acetone or any odors though...)

I don't know what to do with that information but I dont feel safe anymore. ... any ideas? What do I do? I haven't called the cops on her so far because I felt something was off. And some of the people she brings home are scary looking.

I don't know what I should do. I live alone and have no where else to go. No family to move in with. And my lease isn't up until June. This is my first apartment. But I don't want anything to happen to me or my cat. Or my apartment.

It definitely sounds like something is going on, but you don't really have anything solid on her in terms of proving drug crime. Maybe she's illegally subletting the apartment to other people.

I think in many states you have a legal right of what is called "quiet enjoyment" or something similar. So while you may not be able to prove what exactly is going on, you can gather proof that your neighbor is making a lot of noise and causing a disturbance.

It sounds like your options are:

1 Complain to the landlord and try to get some form of remedy.

2 Establish grounds for legally breaking the lease, and then find another apartment. In principle, a call to 211 might be worth a try but I'm not sure they could help. You might have to research housing law in your state or get advice from a lawyer. Community legal clinics and law school clinics sometimes offer free or low cost assistance. An inherent problem with this approach is that even if you find new housing, there's no guarantee that there won't be some other problem with the new place.

If the landlord knows you've got solid legal grounds to break the lease and plan to follow through on that if nothing is done, they may be more inclined to take some action on your behalf.

3 Try to find a way to be and feel safer and more comfortable. If you don't have a deadbolt on exterior doors, or locks on windows you might want to either ask the landlord for help with that or have them installed yourself if you're permitted to under your lease. There might also be some other ways to dampen noise or increase your security. I could try to think of other things if you want to go with this approach.

4 Sue the landlord or your neighbor. However, don't be surprised if your neighbor tries to engage in some form of retaliation if you are in conflict with her.

I hope things can work out.

They are full of stolen goods. The junkies around here can be seen carting strollers full of stolen items to known drug houses at all hours of the day.
Oh interesting.. so that's how they pay. Makes sense.
I guess it's not meth because I never smell anything. But Marijuana is legal here. Maybe fentanyl or other stuff like cocaine? I have no idea about that world..

I'm just trying to survive till the end of the year. I mind My business. The music does drive me nuts with my adhd and studying. It's bad. But retaliation is something I don't want to risk.

However its dangerous to live next to a drug house right? I dont want to be caught in the middle of something..

"Establish grounds for legally breaking the lease, "

That might be something to look into..

It could be any drug they're selling, and they're not necessarily producing them there.

It's dangerous, but there's nothing you can do. Society coddles those kinds of people, they effectively have more rights than you do.

Thank you for this valuable knowledge. At least I can connect all the dots now. I'm glad I went with my gut instinct and never confronted her or left her a note saying basically to stfu and stop with the music!
Because I was thinking about it so many times.

I've also seen boxes being dollied out by two men and put into a uhaul. Which was weird because she never moved out so I was like... huh... alright then.

Not sure what I'll do. Ngl.. I'm just tired and trying to get through this shitty year. I have only ever seen her outside twice so she keeps to her unit or is gone entirely for a few days with two big guys.

The foot traffic is random and definitely a thing not normal. All hours. But it's not crazy active. Maybe 4- 5 people a week. No same person twice. With the bags and strollers. So many different people over the past 4 months though.

So maybe that means it's not so crazy dangerous. Just a thing going on? She definitely doesn't work a regular job. Random cars show up and stay outside for a bit. But this is the first time I've heard shouting or a scuffle. Maybe it's on the safer side of drug dealers? If there is one...

If she was selling drugs I think you’d see the same people as drug addicts need to keep buying more drugs on a regular basis.
She could be buying and selling stolen goods, that would explain the different people coming and going and the the moving stuff around. But she could just be a thoughtless neighbour who isn’t a criminal.
You could try speaking to one of the other people on her floor first to see if they know anything. They might have more information on the comings and goings. Just play your cards close to your chest and don’t let on what you might do, then if you do choose to report it to the police you can do so anonymously and no one will suspect you.
