I really need my music to survive. To reset from the day. I'll listen to it for hours after work and lookup random things on the internet. Or just zone out.
Asmr is a magical thing too. I'm a huge audiophile.

I also have to fidget for a few hours . I have ADD and the fidgeting/stimming is kind of next level for me. I'm always doing it somehow. My ears, my hair, shirt fabrics, anything soft... So I've gone days without either of those coping mechanisms before, and I wasn't in a good place lol! (What a freak I am.. Ugh)
But my hands are always playing with something.

I journal too..it seems random to me.

*hug thank you for the tag @extraterrestrialone

Now oh man you’ve done it I have to make a poem. With apologies:
Thanks for the tag 👽 -

afaik only alien with a cafe here on earth.
So I’ll have a strong tea, 2 eggs, please a sprinkle of mirth.
Give me a smile or take one they’re free.
Rant, or be quiet or converse while with me,
Our moments are few our tears often cursed,
But look take a breath: Hugs, loved ones, food & music give worth.
Yeah stinky oh well.
😊

Thanks for tag @extraterrestrialone
Really amazing poem and those foods are yummy! Makes me want to order donuts irl.

First time being here. So, I'll start:

• do you keep a diary?
Well, maybe in high school, but it's been a long time that I haven't anymore.

• a journal?
I thought about it in the first few days of my grief, but I'd rather just talk to my partner (in my mind). I've also been quite active in a grieving forum reading people's stories and trying my best to reach out to them, while also telling my story (right now though, it's hard for me to talk about everything on my end because it's gotten extremely complicated).

• an outlet… that famous “coping mechanism”??
Playing on my PS5/Xbox Series X or videogames in general. But even then, I get distracted. It's just temporary happiness. Sometimes, I just talk/respond to people online. Gives me comfort when I try to comfort. I feel better when I make them feel a little better. Oh, sometimes I drink a bottle of beer or two every midnight.

• but i do wonder what you do?
Think I already answer that haha I guess, being on SF a lot lately?

• do you run a marathon to let off some steam?
I'm still not comfortable going outside. The sadness and emptiness creeps in every time. Well, unless, I really need to take care of important stuff.

• how you talk to yourself or to god. ...or to the universe.
Well, I talk a little bit when I try to motivated myself or when I'm really down then ask I myself "Why am I still alive?". I used to talk to my partner a lot in our bedroom while sobbing 2-3 months ago. Not so much lately.

• really do you share at all?
Share food? Yes, sometimes. I always try to offer if someone wants if I'm around strangers or people that I'm not close with. Share stories? I will, if I feel like the person is eager to know and that they will understand. Share advices? Share positivity? I always try to, especially when I could relate to someone's story or I feel like that this person is really down and probably needs someone to talk to.

• are you constantly on guard?
I guess. Not all the time though. If I feel that I need to be, then, yes, I will be.

Thank you so much for this. I had fun answering the questions, albeit I didn't get to answer all. Sorry.

Thank you for such a cool cafe D. All the treats look delish too.

• do you keep a diary? I did when I was in my 20's

• do you run a marathon to let off some steam?

No marathons here, but I do walk in my neighborhood for exercise.

• how you talk to yourself or to god. ...or to the universe.
yes, are you listening?

• do you try to get published or have your work shown in a gallery?

I did in the past, nothing major, just at the local library.

It's good to see another cafe post!!
I used to keep a diary when I was a teenager. I actually found mine when I was going through old storage boxes I'd shoved in my mother's attic. They were interesting to read.
ah, old diaries, journals and the like. i have a bunch and i actually dread to read them or just shred them. i may find its too much crying stuff and not enough sentimental. not sure if its safe for me to go there. yet i know eventually i will.

• do you keep a diary?
Sort of. There's kind of one here which I go to once in a while to write down the odd random thought that may have been bouncing round inside my head.

• some form of creative expression?
Does imaginative/inventive swearing count? Used to write what can only loosely be termed as poems. But most of the time they are more like a rambling non-sensical monologue. Mind you banging them out in the early hours of tbe morning having spent the previous night on a diet of vodka and cigarettes, then what do you expect, literary excellence? No chance, move along lol.

• an outlet… that famous “coping mechanism”??
That would usually be music or going for a walk (ankle permitting lol) Occasionally that helps to drift away towards calmer waters. There have been destructive ones, particularly in the past, but lets not go there.

• and of course answer this question… what is the one thing you wrote about that you
wouldn’t tell a soul, not even me. Just kidding! Don’t Tell!!!

Two things:
1. A secret is no longer a secret if more than one person knows.
2. What others don't know, they can't use to hurt you.

Call it proactive damage limitation, the art of possessing a sphinx-like smile ;)

• do you run a marathon to let off some steam?
Nope. If I want steam, I'll switch on the kettle

• how you talk to yourself or to god. ...or to the universe.
With courtesy... Politeness is a virtue :D

• really do you share at all?
Not that much, no. Material goods such as food and drink then yes, Though I draw a line at socks and briefs.

• are you constantly on guard?
For the majority of the time, you better believe it.

Thanks for the tag @extraterrestrialone A nice start to todays cafe.

. do you keep a diary?
I do, on here. Try to write when I can. I find it a good release. I tend to write when I’m not in a good place, but it allows me to let some of it out and say things I wouldn’t say out loud.

• some form of creative expression?
Some might say through gardening, although I tend to have to force myself to go out there to start with. When I’m there I can find it calming. Mostly it’s about being on my own, away from what often feels like a scary mess of a world. I can have some control over my little patch and know that nothing can really touch it, nothing can harm it or destroy it.

. One thing I wrote that I won’t tell?
I find it difficult to want to want to get better. I see people, even on sf here, trying to do things to make themselves feel better. I have no desire to do that. Perhaps it’s because I don’t ‘feel’ anything. Unfortunately being able to feel means you also have to feel the bad, so not feeling is far preferable.

• are you constantly on guard?
Yes always, waiting for the next thing to hit me.

On that cheery note 🤣 time for a cup of tea!

Answers a day late and a dollar short:

• do you keep a diary?
• a journal?

Used to but got read by my ex and what was in it caused the divorce. (He said because I didn't lock it up it was fair game.) Now even writing my thoughts here causes me great stress.

• some form of creative expression?
woodworking and photography. Although I have trouble with woodworking because I am unfamiliar with a lot of techniques and tools.

• an outlet… that famous “coping mechanism”??

Exercise believe it or not!

• and of course answer this question… what is the one thing you wrote about that you
wouldn’t tell a soul, not even me. Just kidding! Don’t Tell!!!
Never mind it got read and distributed by my ex during the divorce.

• but i do wonder what you do?
• do you run a marathon to let off some steam?
Be serious - Me run?
• how you talk to yourself or to god. ...or to the universe. Only talk to God; nothing written done that can bite me
• do you try to get published or have your work shown in a gallery? Nope, unless you consider a picture frame for my photos.
• do you leave it where someone close might stumble upon it?
Learned that lesson...
• are you constantly on guard? Yup

Can't wait for the weekend - maybe I'll do a Cafe!!!!

Hmm,
If i were to open a café…
and open it today…
would i start with a rhyme
could be wasting your time
but not much a crime
i’d hope you’d indulge
my secret divulge
put it all on the table
hmm, but guess i’m not able
now lets see whose story
one better of glory
or how about funny
or how you made money
but best is of all
some intriguing tidbits may fall
something tantalizing to nibble
put it out on the table
or just have a coffee
or tea if you’re me
a donut or bacon
or 3 sunnyside ups
or what is your favorite
i’m sure we can dish some
but glad you are here
why i called you my dear
but ever beware
my poems get long
and hardly a song
may you try and do better
please write me a letter
and smile…

and todays question are:
• do you keep a diary?
• a journal?
• some form of creative expression?
• an outlet… that famous “coping mechanism”??
• and of course answer this question… what is the one thing you wrote about that you
wouldn’t tell a soul, not even me. Just kidding! Don’t Tell!!!

• but i do wonder what you do?
• do you run a marathon to let off some steam?
• how you talk to yourself or to god. ...or to the universe.
• do you try to get published or have your work shown in a gallery?
• do you leave it where someone close might stumble upon it?
• like under the pillow, or under the willow?
• in the laundry room?
• or next to the toilet?
• really do you share at all?
• are you constantly on guard?

remember, i know how sensitive the subject might be. pick and choose only the questions that are ok to you. this is a thing you may not want to answer at all or maybe only to one or few. then how about a poem or two?

and i am not asking for what all the content is. i only wonder if you reach for something this way to make your life fuller and happier as best you can. tell what is easy and fun and smile inspiring…

and what is your way of reaching. everything is optional... i hope you will give it a try...

and hope your café meal or snack or beverage is just as tasty as the stories we get to see…

so grab a bite and a drink and see if there is something to say about what’s on your mind

yours truly 👽

Yes, I've kept a daily journal since college (decades). Thought I'd just keep a record of an overseas vacation trip and wound up sticking with it. I've used plain old subject notebooks for this and have a couple of boxes of them by now.

Sadly, there's nothing really interesting there. It's become sort of perfunctory, mostly just a few lines per day. I'm pretty sure I wrote some embarrassing things years ago, but it's amazing how much I (we) forget. When I look at my entries from decades ago, it's as though someone else had written them, whether it be the content or even the handwriting style.

I'm thinking of just recycling or burning it all. I'm pretty sure the vast majority of what I had written will never be read by anyone, even me. It's an interesting question as what'll become of it once I'm gone. It'll probably be like Blade Runner: "All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain."

yikes @Livelife I didn't tag you!!! sorry. I hope you stop by. and my apologies to those else who I neglected to tag. the café date is April 12+ so there's still plenty of time!!!
:DThank you ET for the tag*thumbsup.
I kept a journal for decades....And I threw most of them out a couple of years ago since there was no point in keeping them. I only write as a tool on occasion when I need to discharge thoughts/feelings that I can't clear.
My outlet is nature walking and meditation/yoga. And the dogs. I used to play music.
I don't trust anymore....I've done a 180* on that note. It's mostly about myself, not others. Still, it doesn't feel as safe in the world to me as it used to.
