Good morning! Up so early today that I had to open the Café in order to get a coffee. Tags are at the end; please tag others, too!

Today’s music theme: quiet songs you like/love — any artist, any time frame.

Today’s questions:

1. When you were five or six years old, what did you want to grow up to be?

A prima ballerina. I loved the tutus, toe shoes and tiaras.

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?

Reading/Language Arts/English. I’ve always loved a good story!

3. Who is your current role model (celebrity or personal life - don’t need to give full names from personal life, of course)?

Lots of people, but my friend S. for giving selflessly because she feels it’s the “right thing to do.” My friend K. for her strong sense of right and wrong and her personal adherence to that moral code. Many people here on SF for outstanding resilience and strength in the face of difficult things.

2. Favourite subject in school: Chemistry and Mathematics (in the later years anyways).

1. When you were five or six years old, what did you want to grow up to be?

An astronaut. I had a fascination with space from a very early age, something I maintain to this day.

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?

Reading/Writing/English Literature, pursued it all the way up to starting a PhD but couldn't afford to complete it so came out with a Master's in the subject. Unfortunately this proved to be no use in becoming an astronaut (except in my very vivid imagination!) and in fact not much use for getting any kind of job apart from teaching (which I tried but my anxiety standing in front of classrooms was a killer so I never went through with the training!).

3. Who is your current role model (celebrity or personal life - don’t need to give full names from personal life, of course)?

I wouldn't say I have a role model these days. I follow my own intuitions and thoughts feelings and try to avoid being influenced too much by others, so I'd have to say, weirdly, I am more or less my own role model

3. Current role model, has been for a while:

James Clements (aka ASC) - Musician, film composer, recording artist, record label owner.

What can I say... this is an amazing individual. I enjoy so much of their music output, it's just beyond me. ^__^ His Ambient works, Electronic, IDM and much more, which I feel super connected with. Been listening to his music since like 2015.

This is what he wrote years ago in an AMA (Ask Me Anything) thread:

What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?

In school subjects I loved depended on the teachers who could hold my attention.
Now I love all knowledge.... in my community it wasn't done to study past GCSE's. I'd want to study history, philosophy, a side of design and arts, education, psychology, education. Maybe chemistry and physics too.

1. When you were five or six years old, what did you want to grow up to be?

A scientist - not that I knew what a scientist did - but I ended up an engineer which is pretty close.

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?

I enjoyed all subjects - got bored with US History. In college I took Machine shop and other electives not required by my major. Any hands on class I liked. (Though I took machine shop in my last year of school and because I was looking for a job I fell behind in making my project. So we spent a half day at a real machine shop with the bf and others completing the project . ) And then I passed the course even though I was auditing it. )

3. Who is your current role model (celebrity or personal life - don’t need to give full names from personal life, of course)?
Mike aka @1964dodge lately has been a role model. Otherwise I don't have one. But he offers support and love even through his pain. Hopefully I will meet him this year as we live approx 100 miles away.

1. When you were five or six years old, what did you want to grow up to be?
I wanted to be an entomologist because I was in love with insects and other "bugs." I would catch spiders and other critters in jars and poke holes in the top, and stuff like that.

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?
I enjoyed studying Chemistry, Physics, and History.

3. Who is your current role model (celebrity or personal life - don’t need to give full names from personal life, of course)?
Right now I'm hesistant to have a role model. I don't want to be disappointed in people anymore by suddenly finding out things about them. I'm just doing what feels right and going my own way.

Have no memory of what I wanted to be when I was 6, but over lifetime I have wanted to be a journalist, a forest ranger, and an occupational therapist.

Hello, nice to see the place again -

I think at 5 or 6, I wanted to be music (not musician), so the past 60 years have been a period of adjustment

Favorite subject - English, grade school through my bit of college, all of it, poetry, literature, reading, writing

Role model - since childhood, Uncle Gary, my mom's younger brother, became my older brother. He was lovingly devout, a pacifist who volunteered for the army and Viet Nam, so he would have the background to serve men that the military had broken. Became a minister, hospital chaplain, teacher, free-spirit dealer of primitive antiques and finally a cancer victim from Agent Orange. He was a serious, funny, bohemian, Bohemian. He was dignified in his last days,
though he had reasons to be bitter and angry. But the way he lived, and loved life ......

As to questions..

1. When you were five or six years old, what did you want to grow up to be?

I wanted to be a veterinarian as loved all animals which admit if could do all over again I would pursue a field working with animals in some capacity.

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?
Not really a subject per se...but first person accounts- in person or recorded oral histories, historical diaries/letters/autobiographies- provide unique windows into life experiences through the eyes of "ordinary people" who lived extraordinary lives - oftentimes unbeknownst to themselves. There is an immediacy and authenticity which is captured by these contemporaneous storytellers that resonates with me.

3. Who is your current role model (celebrity or personal life - don’t need to give full names from personal life, of course)?
I have never really had one but instead there are qualities that I admire in others both celebrity & personal - integrity- courage of convictions (live your truth with quiet/confident certitude) - resiliency - creativity....

1. I wanted to be an artist.

2. I always liked social studies, learning about different cultures and different places around the world.

3. My role model, off the top of my head is Oprah. She came from humble beginnings, has always helped people and is down to Earth.

A writer or singer and still am passionate about that.

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?
English and spelling for sure.

Friends that I look up to.

When you were five or six years old, what did you want to grow up to be?
I wanted to be a professional baseball player. My grandpa used to take me outside and pitch the ball to me for what seemed like hours every time he came to visit

2. What was your favourite subject in school (any level of education, kindergarten to PhD if you went for one)?
I loved physics. Though chemistry should have probably been considering how much I love explosions.(in safe and controlled environments. I'm not a psycho)

3. Who is your current role model (celebrity or personal life - don’t need to give full names from personal life, of course)?
I have several for different reasons. I know people are fallible so I try to just find characteristics in others that I admire. Christian for his unconditional acceptance of others. Curtis for his humility and grit. And my grandfather for the amazing man he was he had flaws but he never made excuses for them or hid them. He was who he was and felt no need to pretend. He taught me the joy of a hard day's work and how to serve others.

1. I wanted to be a scientist like Mr. Spock from Star Trek. I had no idea what a scientist did but I sensed it was real and solid, and I needed protection from craziness.

2. My favourite subject was math. Later Biology and English. Then Psychology.
