1) if you could go back in history to meet any musician who would it be? And why?
There's a few, but David Bowie and Madonna are at the top of my list (maybe I could still meet Madonna!). They are the masters of reinvention and I love the way they never stay the same, and the way they sort of put their life out in front of us, so we could see all the cracks up close... that goes moreso for Madonna, but her "dust yourself off and keep going" attitude inspires me.

And randomly, I've been thinking a lot about the lead singer of the Waitresses. She died quite young. I think she was 36. I'd just like to tell her that she was ahead of the game with her lyrics about female independence. She mattered.

2) who is your favourite band/singer from the 80s/90s and the 00s (or before the 80s)

So many! I grew up in the 1980s, and the music was so good. Ultimately, it was a mixed bag that included Duran Duran, Huey Lewis, The Cure, The Smiths, and so many more. I think DD came out as my ultimate fave, until the 1990s when I got super into Pearl Jam. My love for Madonna grew and I started a love affair with David Bowie. Heroes put me over the top, and always gets me through rough patches.

3) if you’re up to date with the new type of music who do you think should never have made it and why?
Controversy: I can't stand Lady Gaga. She rips off everyone and gives credit to no one. But most of the new music I listen to is alternative, and most of it is quite good. I can't think of an artist I would rather not be around. Even Lady G. People love her, so who am I to say?

Johnny Cash by far, a big influence on my taste both in singing, guitar playing and songwriting.

2) who is your favourite band/singer from the 80s/90s and the 00s (or before the 80s)

My choices from the 1960s on Pink Floyd, Allman Brothers, The Band, Bob Dylan songwriter mainly because his voice is something else, The Grateful Dead, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, The Eagles, Grand Funk Railroad, Electric Light Orchestra and many others.

3) if you’re up to date with the new type of music who do you think should never have made it and why? :)

All of them. :). LOL, some newer ones are quite good, but it seems that more and more you don't have singers or musicians that play instruments or write their own songs. You see more manufactured acts putting on a big budget spectacle and you hear all about auto tune and people caught lip synching rather than just performing.

Good morning everyone! And welcome to Jim’s cafe :)

what a beautiful day it is! The sun ☀️ is shining the birds 🐦 are chirping and the roads are busy :)

grab yourself a coffee or cuppa (tea) and purch yourself down. Cheers
Busy roads.... traffic turning a 45 minute commute into a 2 hour negotiation of traffic jams and roadworks does not make a happy Dante.

Nevertheless, Your first Cafe ^^ *stars

My questions are

1) if you could go back in history to meet any musician who would it be? And why?

2) who is your favourite band/singer from the 80s/90s and the 00s (or before the 80s)

3) if you’re up to date with the new type of music who do you think should never have made it and why? :)

Hope you all have a wonderful day whatever the weather brings :)
1) I think it would be great to meet one of the old classical composers and let them know their work endures, listened to in high society, hummed by kids who dont even know where it comes from, used to lend gravitas to a scene in a film. Their work endures for centuries...

I think it would just be nice to hear.

2) That's an impossible question :P There are just too many good bands pre 2000, the further back you go, the better they get.

3) Another impossible question. There are so many crap "artists" out there, the more mordern you get, the worse it gets, but if I were given the choice to end just ONE band or singers career NOW and ban all their music... Justin Bieber, I cant think of anyone who benefitted from that.
