Jim's Cafe 12-5-2024 Fun with Eggnog

I'm starting this Cafe early because I don't know if I'll be back until Thursday night. @Angie has been gracious enough to post Cafe's but she is probably at the end of the semester which means papers due and tests to take.

I was grocery shopping the other day and noticed that Eggnog is out in the stores. My mom used to make it with eggs (homemade eggnog). Not sure I would drink it nowadays but I thought I'd start a discussion.

1. Do you like eggnog?
2. If so, cinnamon or nutmeg as a garnish
3. Have you had homemade (not commercially produced) eggnog? Do you like it better than what is in the store?
4. Add alcohol?

Eggnog is just a vehicle for liquor.

No, cinnamon (why not both?), and no (which may color my opinions).

But it’s like asking if I like any other beverage that is primarily used as a mixer. If I feel like being drunk, then I like whatever facilitates that.

I enjoy it at times around the season. Fairly good flavor all around.

I like cinnamon with most anything.

Homemade is definitely the best.

I do that, otherwise I see it as eggnog without the nog. LOL

I don't particularly like eggnog, but if offered I will partake. It had to be homemade with nutmeg and alcohol. The store bought variety seemed very sweet and thick and I didn't care for it.

I love eggnog, but since I quit drinking I am afraid to touch it. It’s too risky that I would instantly want to throw some booze in it. Like others, I don’t see a point in it without the alcohol. Today, if I am going to have something that heavy, I will have ice cream, which is essentially the same thing, only frozen.

1. I do like eggnog.
2. For a garnish I like grated nutmeg. Plus, the word sounds like it goes with eggnog, doesn't it? eggnog, nutmeg.
3. I have had homemade eggnog, years ago some family friends made it for their Christmas parties. I am not sure I'd have it, now, except homemade with pasteurized eggs. Having said that, there's a local dairy here and their eggnog is not as sweet and gooey as the other commercial eggnogs.
4. I don't always but yes I occasionally add a shot of good brandy. Lately I have cut way, way back on alcohol. Honestly I feel very god about not needing it.

5. My plans for the weekend include a long run, and checking out the farmer's market, probably get a coffee there too.

1. Do you like eggnog? It can be a bit much. I don't like just eggnog as a drink, but I'll go to a coffee shop and get an eggnog latte. Yum
2. If so, cinnamon or nutmeg as a garnish Nutmeg! It's one of my favorite spices.
3. Have you had homemade (not commercially produced) eggnog? Do you like it better than what is in the store? I don't know if I've had it.
4. Add alcohol? I'm not that big a drinker. Tbh I don't think I've tried it with alcohol, but I know that's a popular way to serve it.

Cool theme, my answers:

1. Yes, I like eggnog, only the ones made with faux milk though cos I don’t drink real milk anymore and haven’t for many years.

2. Nutmeg, never tried with cinnamon but curious to try it like that now.

3. No, never had homemade eggnog.

4. No, I don’t add alcohol to it, mostly cos not supposed to have alcohol with the pills I take.

5. Don’t really have much in the way of plans for the weekend, will probably do some reading, and Fri eve my friend will be coming over and we’ll be having dinner and watching a movie so that will be nice at least

Yes.... Both are great with it.

Once... and it wasn't properly mixed and nearly made me toss my cookies.

i would like to try it again... make it myself possibly.

It might make it better... might make it worse. i don't believe i have ever had it with alcohol yet. Most of my adult like, we thought i was allergic to alcohol. Only recently (within the last year-ish) has that knowledge been changed.

Yes, I do like eggnog. I once saw Martha Stewart thaw a quart of vanilla Haagendaz (sp?) and pour it into a pitcher and she said, there you go lol . I get mine at Braum's, an ice cream/burger joint which also has a little grocery section. Its the best.

I don't think I've ever tasted homemade eggnog.
