Well, I said "I'm going to make a Jim's Cafe thread one day". Here is the day:
  • In the US, Benjamin Franklin and Benjamin Rush established the first organization aiming to abolish slavery in all North America.
  • First commercial movie theater.
  • The Titanic hit the iceberg.
  • Sputnik 2, the first spacecraft carrying a living animal, a dog named Laika, successfully landed. This allowed the USSR to further develop the first manned flight into space.
  • The almost complete (99%) record of human genes.
The Ancient Gateway
It's a large door made from a sort of stone, where you see four colored and titled slabs of stone standing by the path to such door.
  • Air: "What is your most life-changing event?"
  • Water: "What is your best memory about others?"
  • Earth: "What is your most valuable treasure?"
  • Fire: "What is your strongest dedication to life?"
Your answers to the above questions will open the gateway. It's magical, after all, you don't even have to say things out loud.
In the mean time, I think I have to tag. Is there any limit on the number of tags? Well, I will stop at 10.

Thanks for the cafe @johnDoen nice and interesting format :)

Air: Single events are tricky, but I think the first largest single event is probably one I didnt even appreciate until 10 years later. My parents gave me a choice to go to a the local "smart kid school" or go to the same average school as my brother, I was worried about failing so I chose the average school, where I was so mercilessly and relentlessly bullied that I lost all motivation to excel and gained the seeds that would eventually turn into depression at university.

Water: My 17th birthday was a bust, EVERYONE forgot, my own PARENTS seemed to forget, I think I got 1 pair of jeans as a present, no cards, and no happy birthday. Up until this year it was always celebrated to SOME extent, so I went to school feeling empty and cheated, and a friend of mine who had the most shining and friendly personality heard, immediately grabbed some paper and made me the most authentically HER birthday card I could have imagined. Silly doodles, a stick version of her dancing "happy birthday" on the cover. It was so heart-warming it saved the day for me. That silly card became a talisman for the rest of the day, and I think I still have it.

Earth: THAT I cant say, but I can say that I have a box, every now and then I have to replace the box with a bigger one, it is currently a shoebox, and I put little keepsakes and reminders of precious or terrible times in that box, it is a little lifeboat of important memories I can dive into and relive whenever I want. Not every memory makes it in, but if that memory gives me some kind of object to mark it by, it does. Every kind of event from great films to days out with my first love to my best friends funeral are marked by some keepsake in that box.

Fire: Im not sure what you mean by that really, do you mean something I do as a sign that I value life, or something that keeps me living, or some grand plan to seize the day?

  • Air: "What is your most life-changing event?" The death of my mother because it was personal to me and I cared about her.
  • Water: "What is your best memory about others?" My youth and the lessons taught to me by family.
  • Earth: "What is your most valuable treasure?" I try to have a sense of honor.
  • Fire: "What is your strongest dedication to life?" Trying to live a life of rectitude. Admittedly with the above and this one I confess I have my share of human failures. LOL

Air- I guess the single greatest event to have changed me would be losing my two best friends to COVID and the loss of my unborn child. Those things coupled together amongst other things are why and how I found this amazing site.

Water- It would have to be my first date with my girlfriend. This is back in High school, and I was working at Wendy's, and I had saved two paychecks to take her out because I really liked this girl from the moment I saw her, and believe it or not, I was pretty shy back then lol even though I was on the baseball and football team I tended to stick to myself. Anyways I rode my Motorcycle up to her house, ready to take her to a local steak house, and she comes out with flowers in her hand. And I was confused, and she was like, these are for you. I was honestly pretty flabbergasted, lol. And I bought her a Custom helmet to ride on my Motorcycle/Crotchrocket with me. I Dunno if this story applies, but it is my favorite of others.

Earth- My compassion for others is why I got into healthcare and became a nurse because I genuinely want to help others as best I can and positively influence this world.

Fire- Honestly? Right now, it would be my girlfriend; My work right now is just a sore spot for me currently.

Very sad to hear of the losses of loved ones from your life.

Air: There's a couple of answers here, but I'll go with an anniversary coming up. That day I met my ex. That was the most perfect day I have ever lived in many ways. It's where I learned to an independent person and to live with fear, but to also challenge it. And it's the day I fell in love so hard that my entire world changed in an instant. Things did not play out the way I'd hoped, but that day still brings me so much warmth.

Water: I guess my best memory might be a sort of shared one. Are you ever in the process of making a friend and in some strange moment one of you says something so funny you both can not stop laughing, and then in an instant you feel close to that person? This is my favorite feeling in the world, and I've been lucky to share that moment with a few people (some are not in my life anymore, others are forever friends). This happened not too long ago with someone I am now very close to. It's just the greatest feeling, laughter and friendship.

Earth: a photo I have of me and my ex. I love it. We only had two pictures taken together. The other one is shite! But I love the first pic. He took it, and was kind of smooth about getting it. I was happy, he looked beautiful.

Fire: My work. I have a good job and a good place in that community. They don't see what a trash fire I am either. So, it's a place of escape, I guess.

I'm a bit late, thanks @johnDoen for opening and inviting me. It reminds me of The Fifth Element movie.

Air: "What is your most life-changing event?" Falling in love for the first time and all the consequences.

Water: "What is your best memory about others?" I have annoyingly good memory of everyone that crossed my path, and every single one is somehow important, good or bad.

Earth: "What is your most valuable treasure?" My bank account lol.

Fire: "What is your strongest dedication to life?" My man

Now open the damn gate *rofl

Thank you for opening Cafe and for the tag @Dante. Interesting facts and cool format too.

1. My most life changing event sorry to say was bittersweet. I had to be removed from my foster home at age 14 until my foster father left but I was able to go back. I bonded with the counselors and other children in the group home though.

2. Trying hard to think, for me has to be sharing and helping each other with our children when our children were babies. There are many instances of kind people.

3. I guess some of my pictures. I'm not that sentimental, or so I've been told. I do have things from many years ago.

4. My dedication to life in s staying alive so that I don't leave my children with a parent that has given up by suicide.

To be clear, I don't know what is on the other side of the gate. I don't know why it has to be a gate. Well, it doesn't have to be opened. The seal knows it all.
"Dedication to life" is pretty much life purpose. I was trying to be more mysterious.

What is your most life-changing event?
- When I was close to commit suicide but stopped to book an appointment at a mental clinic.

What is your best memory about others?

- There are people who calmly told me "It's going to be okay" when I made mistakes.

What is your most valuable treasure?

- A manga collection. I think I'm the only one in my country buying those, as the stories inspired me a lot.

What is your strongest dedication to life?
- Learning Japanese to thank the author of those manga.

A.) That I didn't die: (when I should have. . .) / Late '08~ {it} would've been 'great!' & saved me TREMENDOUS Heart_Ache. ( ;

B.) The kids I once coached, in school... & my Grandparents~ (spoiled me, 'Rotten!!!') ;^D__*~>

C.) Well, I guess I'd say it's my guitar. Old piece of "junk," that/or but- I can somehow make (it) work; on occasion, or occasionally! so..;/

D.) I don't know... 'Honestly,' (any~more^)_. : ) -probably, i should think of "some-thing!" ; )

As far as dedication or purpose in life - I'd say I used to think it was making others around me, or in my presence, 'Happy!' or bringing out the happiness, in them, or in any situation. Which in turn, would hopefully do so: so for instance, sometimes, if I can be happy, or spread some of that, or my happiness & this could be in the form of simple - or simply, "good cheer," or what have you. Being silly; making jokes~ pointing out a humorous or amusing "situation," & etc~. But point being, i used to take great satisfaction in being able to walk into any room, or a dull one, one where everybody or someone, is 'down,' & having that ability to turn things around, mood or orientation wise, rather organically.. Just ususally in so far as, or by (just) being myself. In other words, it's not like it required any great, or conscious effort, on my behalf. But more was sort of an automatic, cure is too strong a word. And wrong, but if you can just read/or take the temperature of the room, and understand the particulars, or the players (involved). That can go a long way, in determining the right path, or tract to take~ modus, or method; now I am lost--carelessly & hopelessly so. . . Like Jack Nicholson when he is typing in his room in the shining when his wife Wendy, comes in an "interrupts," Him- or, maybe not as serious as that? Seriously..;) I don't think or know or believe that this - let's be overly generous, and call it a skill or a talent, (it is not, but for the sake of~ ... ) what ever it is: I don't feel as though it has served me well in life in terms of progression, or getting ahead. Gaining anything in other words, beyond the affection of a few friends and other well wishers, in particulars. Bystanders, you could almost call them, in a sense? i suppose, one could or might 'suggest~.' Because what have I to show for all of this again - incorrect word, but I can come up with no better given how ticked the heck off I am, at the moment~ . . . "generosity!" Or heart/spirit, b. s., etc.? No-thing. nothing, at all that you can take with you, or cash in at the bank. Believe me, if I leave this world, others - even those who may have at one point in time, known me best... will but merely 'bat an eye,' before requesting someone pass them the salt at the dinner table. And that's assuming it even disrupts their consciousness for that long (a brief, or split-second, in other words). Anyway? Where was I! What were we talking about John? something existential... I hope, not~ :) blah blah blah blahhhhhhhhhhhh
