thank you for opening the cafe @Dante

tech table

1. oldest piece of tech that i like : older cars without any computers. it was so easy in he old cars to fix. it was either an electrical problem like ignition points , spark plugs, distributor etc. or a fuel problem like the carbeurator or mechanical fuel pump and yes i do still own one.

2. least favorite : the old computers that you hooked up to your tv like the commodore 64 or vic 20

3. past piece of tech i hate and still use : nothing that i still use

4. old tech i wish they'd bring back : sealed glass beams on cars instead of these tiny bulbs covered with cheap plastic.

5. old tech i can't wait to replace : my laptop, it's 5 years old and has seen better days.

Healer's Table
A table celebrating and investigating those strange creatures in the healthcare profession that look after us.
1) Do you personally know anyone working in the healthcare profession?

My cousin is a surgeon, but I do not know her that well

2) When was the last (nonembarrassing) time you needed help from a healthcare professional?

Last year I was in the hospital a lot because of kidney stones so then

3) What is the healthcare service like in your country/area?

I stayed in two different hospitals last year, George hospital and the world-famous Groote Schuur Hospital (I was actually born there) and George hospital had amazing service they were kind efficient friendly and my time was not bad there, then I went to Groote Schuur Hospital and honestly I would rather just live with Kidney stones then go back there ever again

4) Do you think the healthcare professionals you have sought help from did a good job?

As I said above it depends where you go, but in South Africa, you want good service in the medical field, prepare to spend a lot of money

5) What would you improve about your healthcare services?

Well it does need improvements, but I am not the right guy to ask what those should be

Old Tech Table
Yup, an entire table for either loving or hating the old tech you have had or still have in your life :P

1) What is your favorite old piece of technology, it could be a Rotary phone, your first mobile with all those polyphonic ringtones, or a TB-303.

I never really had anything growing up. So I cannot answer from experience, but I really love typewriters they hold a special fascination for me

2) What is your LEAST favorite piece of old technology, something you are GLAD to be rid of.

Dial-up modems

3) What horrible piece of tech from years past do you still have to use regularly (like an old fire alarm system your company refuses to get rid of or a 20-year-old door buzzer on your apartment building)

My toaster is only two slices. Dammit, I want a six slicer already. I am a 6 foot 1 man two slices are you having a laugh toaster companies

4) What old piece of technology do you wish they would bring back? (like 8 track tapes, or typewriters)

I always wanted a rotary phone in my house, how cool would that be and I miss VHS, the happiest I ever remember is the VHS days

5) What current tech can you not wait to get old and replaced with something better?

My small five terabyte hard-drive, I need far bigger.

1) Post a link to your song.
2) Explain why this sums up Suicide Forum.

A song of hope, so it fits with the intent of the forum and the ways and attitudes of those who help others.

Healer's Table
A table celebrating and investigating those strange creatures in the healthcare profession that look after us.
1) Do you personally know anyone working in a healthcare profession?

Quite a number, mainly cousins who are RNs.

2) When was the last (non embarrassing) time you needed help from a healthcare professional?

Dental cleaning last week.

3) What is the healthcare service like in your country/area?

Quite good, I live fairly close to all the needed resources.

4) Do you think the healthcare professionals you have sought help from did a good job?

All have been excellent.

5) What would you improve about your healthcare services?

Can't think of anything for myself personally.

Old Tech Table
Yup, an entire table for either loving or hating the old tech you have had or still have in your life :P

1) What is your favourite old piece of technology, it could be a Rotary phone, your first mobile with all those polyphonic ringtones, or a TB-303.

I do prefer older phones like the ones here, old and still working.

2) What is your LEAST favourite piece of old technology, something you are GLAD to be rid of.

I do love improvements in things like computers, I would hate to be using a modem again. LOL

3) What horrible piece of tech from years past do you still have to use regularly (like an old fire alarm system your company refuses to get rid of or a 20 year old door buzzer on your apartment building)

I still use an over the air antenna for my TV but love it since there are few channels I watch much.

4) What old piece of technology do you wish they would bring back? (like 8 track tapes, or typewriters)

Probably nothing but am pretty low tech here. :) Most things I have and use are quite old, but in so many ways I am old fashioned.

5) What current tech can you not wait to get old and replaced with something better?

Twitter, since it inundates news stories and often is nonsense replies by people who I just wonder who the hell is this idiot and why is his opinion put on a news story.

Welcome to yet another Jim's Cafe, this time with an all new Master Tag List comprising anyone who posted in a Cafe in March! (plus a few additions of my own). Now on with today's celebrations: today is Doctors Day, Pencil Day, Take A Walk In The Park Day, and World TB-303 Appreciation Day! and on top of all that I believe I have found the new Suicide Forum Theme Song!

Yes, today, instead of the fun facts will feature a link to glamourous Youtube for us all to listen to our new theme song! If you listen to the lyrics I think it really says what SF is all about (at least in my opinion).

The Theme Song

And now for the Tables, remember, mingle, have fun, and enjoy:

Competition Table
Yes, (hopefully) the highlight of todays Cafe! I'm not the only person who can pick SF's theme song. If you know a song which you feel sums up Suicide Forum for you, post it.
1) Post a link to your song.
2) Explain why this sums up Suicide Forum.

A place for all you social people who don't like questions as much as you like the people who answer them.
1) Say Hello
2) What do you want to tell us?

The Recruitment Table
A place to volunteer to post the next Jim's Cafe and keep the magic going. If you dont feel like you can't do the same kind of cafe as me, then good. Verity is the spice of life, be it short and sweet, long and elaborate, heartfelt or well thought out, a cafe is a venue for people to talk, the more different the better, it just gives us more to talk about :D

If you do want to volunteer type "I VOLUNTEER" in as big an obvious letters as possible in your post.
Is there supposed to be a link on Master Tag List?

Competition Table

This forum is the closest thing to the title of that song, a phone number for emergency venting or sort of.

Healer's Table

Do you personally know anyone working in a healthcare profession?
- My mom used to be a hospital's janitor.

When was the last (non embarrassing) time you needed help from a healthcare professional?
- When I faced something like malaria back when I was 12.

What is the healthcare service like in your country/area?
- There is no such thing as perfection. Equipment is decent, not really outdated nor cutting-edge. Workers are doing the best they can, stressful as fuck but honored and respected by most other people.

Universally, mental health section is worse compared to physical one, and money can always get you the best service.

Do you think the healthcare professionals you have sought help from did a good job?
- Physical ones are fine. The therapist is horrible, probably because of my expectation, as I wanted to be listened and not be interrogated.

What would you improve about your healthcare services?
- Man up and speak clearly about my demands and expectations. Other than that, vote for decent politicians, if they exist.

Old Tech Table

What is your favourite old piece of technology, it could be a Rotary phone, your first mobile with all those polyphonic ringtones, or a TB-303.
- The snake game on Nokia phone and its playing-music-by-notes app.

What is your LEAST favourite piece of old technology, something you are GLAD to be rid of.
- Kindle, I've never had one actually. I cannot really reading e-books as consistently as reading printing books.

What horrible piece of tech from years past do you still have to use regularly (like an old fire alarm system your company refuses to get rid of or a 20 year old door buzzer on your apartment building)
- TV. I only need a handful of channels, like Discovery Channel, National Geography or the national one for local news.

What old piece of technology do you wish they would bring back? (like 8 track tapes, or typewriters)
- The hard shell/case of Nokia, which is not really technological. I keep breaking my iPhone by accidents.

What current tech can you not wait to get old and replaced with something better?
- TV, perhaps it can be replaced with smart projectors.

The Bar

Say Hello
- Hello
What do you want to tell us? - I'm procrastinating, again.

Well, I did a Jim's Cafe on 28th.I l volunteered.

Healer's Table
1) Do you personally know anyone working in a healthcare profession?
A few nurces, a GP and a dentist.

2) When was the last (non embarrassing) time you needed help from a healthcare professional?
Three years ago when I almost died (that was my wish, they just did't know) I ended in a hospital and had no choice but let them fix me.

3) What is the healthcare service like in your country/area?
Good and cheap I guess.

4) Do you think the healthcare professionals you have sought help from did a good job?
Considering they're not mind riders, and I didn't even want help, yes, they did a remarkable job.

5) What would you improve about your healthcare services?
Waiting times for some non urgent surgeries should be shorter. But I wish people stopped complaining so much because what I hear about some other countries we are in a healthcare paradise.

Old Tech Table
1) What is your favourite old piece of technology?
A washing machine with two buttons.

2) What is your LEAST favourite piece of old technology, something you are GLAD to be rid of.
Once upon a time I had one of those torture machines that yanks your hair out.

3) What horrible piece of tech from years past do you still have to use regularly?
I don't.

4) What old piece of technology do you wish they would bring back?
Machines with less brain that don't want to choose things for me.

5) What current tech can you not wait to get old and replaced with something better?
A cream whipper.

The Bar
1) Say Hello
Hola

2) What do you want to tell us?
I'd like vodka and apple juice, please, no ice. I know it's 6:30am but I've been awake for 6 hours already.

Tysm for tagging me @Harrow :) Cool cafe Dante, will answer the healing table q's, don't really have answers for the others sorry.

Healer's Table
A table celebrating and investigating those strange creatures in the healthcare profession that look after us.

1) Do you personally know anyone working in a healthcare profession?
No, but then I don't know many people anyway.

2) When was the last (non embarrassing) time you needed help from a healthcare professional?
A couple months ago when I needed a refill. In terms of being sick, it was probably last summer when I had an ear infection.

3) What is the healthcare service like in your country/area?
In the country it's one of the best in the world. In our area, well it's ok I guess, my old area was a bit better in some ways I think.

4) Do you think the healthcare professionals you have sought help from did a good job?
For the most part. Not when it came to some of the worst physical pain I ever felt in my life about 5 years ago though. The whole thing coulda been prevented if they'd just told me the correct way to use what I needed to use. I was pretty furious about that, wrote a letter to them after saying please for all future patients make sure they understand that, don't want this to happen to anyone else in the future if it can be prevented. Aside from that they've been pretty good though.

5) What would you improve about your healthcare services?
Make it a lot easier to get a family doctor. It's a real problem here. I think they are doing their best to make the problem better though. There's a lot of reasons why it is like that right now, hope it will get better soon cos would be nice to be able to have a family doctor.

Healers Table

1) my niece runs a clinic and is a pediatric nurse. My eldest daughter is a nurse and assists in delivering babies.

2) last week in fact

3) healthcare is good in my country except not accessible to all and expensive if you don't have coverage.

4) I think so, I believe a patient also has to know their rights and treat staff with respect.

5) lessen medicine cost. My one medicine us $700 per month. 😳. Once pandemic is over I could be without health insurance. That's a problem for me and how many others?

hello hello! i figured id answer the questions for the old tech table despite being a bit of a dummy when it comes to tech-

1) What is your favourite old piece of technology, it could be a Rotary phone, your first mobile with all those polyphonic ringtones, or a TB-303.

-Rotary phones are super cool. I just really like the way they look. Also, I'm not sure if it counts, but I LOVE phone boxes.

2) What is your LEAST favourite piece of old technology, something you are GLAD to be rid of.
I'm not really sure, because I'm quite young so not really old enough to have experienced any old tech. However I never want to see a Blackberry phone ever again.

3) What horrible piece of tech from years past do you still have to use regularly (like an old fire alarm system your company refuses to get rid of or a 20 year old door buzzer on your apartment building)
I don't really have one!

4) What old piece of technology do you wish they would bring back? (like 8 track tapes, or typewriters)

Typewriters for sure. They're so cool. Also, not sure if it counts as old, but I reaaaally love the Nintendo Wii and Nintendo 3DS, they should get a comeback.

5) What current tech can you not wait to get old and replaced with something better?
Elevators/lifts for sure. There's no reason they should be that cramped and scary.
