I live in Patriots football nation ie New England USA. I got into it during the Tom Brady era but I appreciate the strategy aspect of football and how in shape they must be.
Thanks @Sunspots for the history lesson. I always wondered about Guy fawkes Day.

I get to babysit my grandson again this weekend so I am looking forward to it. Except for daylight savings time rollback he is too young to have adjusted to the time change so I will be up at the same time of day (IE 5am instead of 6am). But he is cute and smiles and I lap it up. He is 10 1/2 months old. I hope that he doesn't get into a struggle with the cats - he lost a fight last week with one and the cat drew a lot of blood although it was a small scratch.

@Walker...thanks for opening...

I admit I am a fan of American football...so as a Pittsburgh girl a Steelers fan ---thanks to my mom who loved the Steelers and having met Lynn Swan as a kid....and now have adopted the Rams and the Chargers...as a southern Californian....

Have always admired those who have auburn hair but never brave enough to ever dye my hair as my mom once did and due to the sun her hair turned into a carrot color ... lol

So as one living across the pond...how do you all celebrate Guy Fawkes day?

As for lawyers, admit am biased as work for one and also have one going above and beyond for my father's estate...but like in most fields there are the good, the bad and the ugly...the last two usually the most visible with slimy commercials and making the news for various not so good reasons alas...

Wishing all a great Friday!

I never did get into football or any other team sports to any degree. I always say I don't play well with others or that I only enjoy playing with myself and watch while folks try to figure out if it is a double entendre or am I being serious.

Red hair is the most common color on my mom's side of the family and at one time my hair was dark auburn and my relatives had just about every shade in between. Long past the time that my hair abandoned the top of my head and bugged out to my: ears, nose, shoulders, chest and back. LOL

Living in Texas I did know about Guy Fawkes day but no celebrations held here.

I would say lawyers are a needed evil if no other reason than to make sense out of the mess that previous lawyers did make when passing the laws just by how things are worded. I have only had to deal with lawyers personally twice in my life most recently writing my will after my mom died and my brother and I received our inheritances 7 years ago and decades ago in my past.

Today is American football day (who knew that was a thing) as well as National Jersey Friday. Do you watch American football? What jersey are you wearing? What's your team?
Not really, but there are some fun aspects. For example, I love the comments from players when pressed by the press. They have to say something, anything, even if totally fatuous. One recent one is "I always tell everybody I go out there to play some football!" Gee, who woulda thunk it?

Thanks for opening @Walker! Thanks for the tag @Kiwi2016 :)

I have absolutely no idea about American football. *dunno

I used to go out on Bonfire Night and my two main memories of it are being incredibly cold *blue and not really bothering too much about fireworks but loving sparklers!

I'm not sure what the fuss is about red hair, why people love or hate it *confused but it reminds me of this great French series Spiral and the gorgeous Josephine

Not into football but my daughter has red hair and I am sort of strawberry blonde when in the right lighting. Apparently red hair and blue eyes is the rarest combination of hair/eye colour you can have. My daughter has both. She’s massively passionate about her hair colour and knows lots of fun red hair facts. Redheads feel physical pain more apparently as well.
Fireworks for me here although I’m not planning on seeing any. My kids are a bit too grown up foe that now. Either that or not really interested. Although they were going off last night for a long time in gardens around us.
Might manage some sparklers tonight if I can find some at this late stage.
Hope everyone is having a calm weekend. I’m heading out to the garden to do some digging!

Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the House of Lords at the opening of parliament on 5th December 1605. The aim was to kill the King and bring down the government so that they could restore a Catholic King to the throne. But he and his gunpowder were discovered in the early hours of the morning in a cellar beneath Parliament and he was arrested. It's been celebrated each year since (I have absolutely no idea why) with huge bonfires, burning effigies and fireworks.

The part of England I grew up in take it very seriously. There are torch lit processions every weekend for the weeks running up to it, culminating in a huge procession on Guy Fawkes night with thousands of people. Rolling burning barrels of tar through the streets, burning torches and fireworks.

I used to be a huge college football fan/watcher, and a not-so-fervent NFL fan. These days I have no interest in sports whatsoever. When I did, I was a big Steelers/Penn State fan, as well as Georgia Tech, as I grew up in Pittsburgh and lived most of my life in Atlanta. I was raised on the Bradshaw/Greene/Harris/Swann era Steelers. I think Roethlisberger played a big part in my losing interest in football, as I think he's an overrated douchebag.

I'm American, so no on the Guy Fawkes thing.

I have brown hair with a hint of red (my Irish heritage...). I dated a few redheads. Never dyed my hair and never plan to. I keep my head shaved, or at least buzzed extremely short, so nothing to color really lol...

I have friends who are/were attorneys, and I do think the profession is at times unfairly maligned, though I sometimes understand why it is. I've only dealt with lawyers for real estate, divorce and estate planning/distribution.

There are times I wonder how many only know the Guy Fawkes mask from pop culture and the movie V For Vendetta and nothing of the history? It can me me chuckle with some folks often younger wearing the Che Guevara t-shirt and are clueless about the man and how he would have probably reacted to them. LOL

Tysm for the tag @Kiwi2016 I appreciate it a lot. Glad there's been some cafe's posted over the last week :)

I'm not into sports, so no, none and none are my answers to those 3 sports q's lol.

Cool about a special day for celebrating red hair. I don't have red hair but wish I did since it seems to be such a popular color that so many people want. If it made me more popular then that would definitely be cool. I think the prettiness of the face would still matter just as much though so it would only very marginally help. It def. helped me a lot when I died my hair blonde about 16 years ago that's for sure.

No I don't celebrate those other holidays.

Lol about "love your lawyer day" never knew there was such a thing :p

Have a nice day everyone. :) *hug*grouphug2
