Hello all, this is a sombre cafe today as it deals with a rather serious topic. Lost Sock Memorial Day. Today we pay remembrance to all those socks who have been lost in the wash, from our gym bags, or wore through protecting out feet from discomfort. We salute you oh brave and noble socks, your sacrifices will be remembered.

Fun Facts:
1) The word socks come from the Roman "soccus", a loose-fitting slipper worn by Roman comedy actors on stage, had no buckles or ties and was usually made of leather or woven fabric.
2) UK national odd-sock day takes place in mid November and is actually celebrated in schools (the kids get a kick out of it), and marks the start of anti-bullying week.
3) Approximately 40% of the worlds socks are produced in the city of Datang in China which earned it the nickname of "Sock City".
4) A study by the University of Groningen in the Netherlands did a study showing that wearing socks during sex has a notable positive impact on the experience. Thank you socks.

Sock Table
Yes, a table about socks, wonderful isn't it?
1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks?
2) Describe your favourite pair of socks
3) How often do you buy new socks
4) How many socks have you lost?
5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)

Health Table
It also happens to be Nurse's Week, as well as Bladder Cancer, Ehlers-Danlos, Prader-Willi, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and Lime Disease awareness month.
1) How is your health today?
2) When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse?
3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors?
4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them?
5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?

Philosophy Table
Because it is never a bad time for Philosophy, feel free to answer 1 or all 3.
1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is?
2) Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? What would people who never suffered be like?
3) Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie?

The Bar
For all those who want to say Hi, but dont want to dig into the questions at the tables.
1) Say Hi
2) Tell us something.

Recruitment Desk
A place to volunteer for posting tomorrow's Cafe. Just post in large letters "I volunteer".

1. Pairs. I'm not an animal. Are you serious? No. Always in pairs.
2. Black ankle length athletic socks. Nothing else.
3. As often as I can get away with it. I love new socks actually even though they're boring. Twice a year I buy like twenty pair.
4. About 926, give or take.
5. I've never even worn sandals..

It also happens to be Nurse's Week, as well as Bladder Cancer, Ehlers-Danlos, Prader-Willi, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and Lime Disease awareness month.

1. It could be worse I'm sure
2. Sept 2020?
3. They're ok. I mostly just want my meds and to get away from them.
4. Dislike strongly.
5. I have the above mentioned Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. It basically just makes me dislocate my joints. All I have left that works anymore is my left elbow lol

Pairs (or whatever looks close enough!)
2) Describe your favourite pair of socks
All socks are equal to me, provided they do the job.
3) How often do you buy new socks
Whenever there's a sale.
4) How many socks have you lost?
Who knows... but then I never know whether the dryer steals one or adds one! :)
5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)
Yes! And if people think there's something weird about this, that's their hang-up.

Hey Dante:

thank you for inviting me. love the facts and these questions. i really need the smile op now so thanks much.

Fun Facts:
1) The word socks come from the Roman "soccus", a loose-fitting slipper worn by Roman comedy actors on stage, had no buckles or ties and was usually made of leather or woven fabric. is that where the name of the game soccer comes from also?
2) UK national odd-sock day takes place in mid November and is actually celebrated in schools (the kids get a kick out of it), and marks the start of anti-bullying week. i’m happy there is an anti-bullying week!
3) Approximately 40% of the worlds socks are produced in the city of Datang in China which earned it the nickname of "Sock City". sock it to me!
4) A study by the University of Groningen in the Netherlands did a study showing that wearing socks during sex has a notable positive impact on the experience. Thank you socks. what’s sex?

hey Dante, no need to worry about all those socks. i happen to know that they are all hanging out with the lost paper clips. they’re partying and having a good time without us. its not all bad intent though. they just don’t know better. they see us having a good time so they want a good time too.

Sock Table
Yes, a table about socks, wonderful isn't it?
1) Do you wear socks in pairs or odd socks? i have black socks and i have white socks. they are all the same type and style so aside from color they are hard to distinguish one pair to another so it is very likely i’m usually wearing odd socks.
2) Describe your favourite pair of socks. white! no, black! wait, white! hmm, black! ohhhh idk.
3) How often do you buy new socks? not very
4) How many socks have you lost? none, only because someone else lost my socks.
5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest) yes i have but only when i established a great excuse for doing it.

Health Table
It also happens to be Nurse's Week, as well as Bladder Cancer, Ehlers-Danlos, Prader-Willi, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and Lime Disease awareness month. i hope i can be aware but not filled with fear.
1) How is your health today? i’m not happy with a lot but maybe its tmi to say. hmm, maybe saying tmi is tmi. ok you tricked me....
2) When was the last time you saw a doctor/nurse? too recently but i just want to mention... i once knew a Doctor named Pepper. i knew of a Registered Nurse called RN Gina. i often wish i could have the opportunity to introduce them to each other. maybe by now, they already are an item. if you love soft drinks you should know why i mention this. truth is that these are really real people.
3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors? all three. sometimes one each or 2 for one or all three for all 3
4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them? i comfortably hate them.
5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it? i have been posting here about my long term illness since september of 2017.

Philosophy Table
Because it is never a bad time for Philosophy, feel free to answer 1 or all 3.
1) If you could guarantee honesty, what 2 questions would let you get the best idea of who a person truly is? i don’t think there is enough time in any lifetime to get a “best” idea of who a person truly is. truth has a way of changing from moment to moment without bad intent. by the time you get the idea, it already is something different.
2) Is suffering a necessary part of the human condition? hmm, necessary might mean a requirement but its not. what it is is its a state that just happens and that’s the way it is. What would people who never suffered be like? well, people who never suffer would be suffering since they‘d want to be like everyone else.
3) Is it possible to live a normal life and not ever tell a lie? i already live a normal life and not ever tell a lie.

there. did it. thanks again Dante.

hope everyone is having a nice time.

Hey @Dante, thanks for opening the cafe and for the tag :)

2) Describe your favourite pair of socks

4) How many socks have you lost?
5) Have you ever worn socks with sandals? (Be honest)
1. Odd socks??? No, no, no. Pairs, definitely, always.
2. Thick, chunky grey marl ankle socks with big pink heart on each ankle.
3. I probably buy about 20 pairs a year. I buy plain black ankle socks (but with a coloured toe or heel so I can match them into their correct pair), chunky socks for wearing around the house and trainer socks for trainers - I am allergic to wearing trainers with socks that show.
4. The only socks I lose are when my daughter steals them.
5. Socks with sandals? Not me.

Health Table
It also happens to be Nurse's Week, as well as Bladder Cancer, Ehlers-Danlos, Prader-Willi, Cystic Fibrosis, Lupus, and Lime Disease awareness month.

3) Do you like, tolerate or hate doctors?
4) Are you comfortable in hospitals or hate them?
5) Do you have a long term illness and are you willing to tell us about it?
1. Feeling okay today overall.
2. I see doctor's and nurses every day at work. The last time I saw one for a medical need was yesterday when I had my second covid shot.
3. I don't mind them as a general rule but as with all professions sometimes you find one that really is in the wrong job.
4. I wouldn't choose to be in a hospital but if necessary I'm okay with that.
5. I have Lipomyelomeningocoele - a type of spina bifida. Luckily not as severe as some of the other types and mostly now it doesn't cause too many problems.

I'll tackle the philosophy table tomorrow when I've hopefully had some sleep 😴😴

Night y'all *hug
