What's one of your favorite recipes to make at home?
1. I do like salad, but can't eat it due to special diet reasons, so sweets it is. Although, back when I could eat them, my top three:

- seafood/shrimp salad.
- lettuce, tomato, cucumber, chicken, bacon, a little shredded cheese, croutons, and either ranch or russian dressing.
- My mom's radish salad, which consisted of radishes, chopped green onions, cucumbers, and ranch dressing.

2. There were a lot of good meals, but no good childhood memories attached to them that I recall.

3. Cheesesteaks, filet mingon, salmon, homemade/baked mac and cheese with several different cheeses, lasagna, roast beef or pot roast, pigs in a blanket, and bacon with just about anything.

Chicken spring rolls made by my grandma for a birthday before I became a teenager. I can't be more specific than that because I don't remember how old I was. In fact the only memory I have from this particular birthday is taking a couple of the spring rolls in my hand outside (we lived in a cul de sac) as I played outside with friends or family on bikes and scooters. I may have fallen off my bike/scooter and grazed my elbow or that could be another time, the memory is not so clear. It's a good memory for me, although it's not particularly well remembered. The spring rolls were good and so was playing outside in the sun on our quiet street on my birthday.

What's one of your favorite recipes to make at home?

Omlette with honey roast ham, cherry tomatoes, onion, green pepper and optional cheese. Very easy to make, very quick, colourful and very filling. A good way to start the day.

Happy friday @C4RL4 and all who stop by.

P.S. one time at uni I was playing a game on playstation and saw one of my roommates was watching something like he always would on an app I wasn't familiar with. He was always watching this rather than playing games so when I saw him in the kitchen later that day I asked him what's that thing you're always watching? Is it anime? Only I pronounced it 'a-nyme', he said "a-nyme?? do you mean anime (a-nuh-mei)?" Felt a bit embarrassed lol

@C4RL4 thanks for the tag! (I think if you tag over 10 people it doesn't show up in their notifications or something, just so you know, otherwise I would've posted sooner) and thank you for opening the cafe today!

I do like salad but I find I make a terrible salad :D I'm usually a more savoury toothed person than sweets!

My grandmother makes brilliant toast. I don't know how or why but she has a gift. I swear :D

What's one of your favorite recipes to make at home?
Eh... Simple really... Start to boil some egg noodles. Dice some tofu up and let it kinda cook for a few minutes in some oil (I like chilli oil), while that happens. Dice, spring onion, red onion, mushroom, carrot, garlic. Throw it in with the tofu, also a nice handful of bean sprouts, splash some soy sauce on top. By that time, your noodles should be done. Drain em... See if your vegetables and tofu, 3/4 done, look it, cool? Whack up the heat to full. Throw your noodles in and splash a load of soy sauce in there for good measure, not too much but not too little.. mix it all up for like 30 seconds to a minute max. Pull it off the heat. Finish with a few sprinkles of rosemary and chilli flakes. Sweet and sour sauce is optional though I like a bit. Just make sure that's all folded in and not top heavy on the seasoning. Let stand for minute or two. Serve.

Both.

My grandmother came to the US from Poland and my parents - I don't remember if my grandmother cooked when she lived with us because I was so young - used to make galumpki - cabbage rolls with hamburger. Very rarely do I find them and when I do I order them. I once made them for my family but no one would eat them and there were too many of them for me to eat..

What's one of your favorite recipes to make at home?

I have learned to use the crockpot which I have a VERY small one but I have made shredded chicken tacos and enchilada bean pasta dishes which are out of this world. Only problem is is that even with a small crockpot the food lasts many extra meals until I am sick of it.

Because I haven't answered my own questions get, I'll do it here:

1. Baked sweets are my favorite

2. The first thing I cooked alone was american pancakes, I think I got better at making them

3. Simple meals, like rice, smashed potatoes and pasta, with sauce, also chicken soup is one of my favorites

Hi @C4RL4 , nice café! and thanks for inviting me. wondering how i’ll do with today’s Qs.

Do you prefer sweet or salad, or maybe both?

i have to avoid sweets because of diabetes, but i’m not very good at that. its probably a good idea to have salad more often but i’m not so good at that either. i would exclude fruit salad though at any rate. over all i probably have to say both!

Share it! when i was young my mother made the best lazy dumplings. do you know about lazy dumplings? its nearly fat upon fat upon starch. real healthy right? it is so delicious. miss it so much. in fact, thinking about it now, i may have to find a recipe and make some. but keep in mind, that i cannot be responsible if anyone tries it and gets over fatted and starched. dough boiled and swimming in butter and buried under globs of sour cream. must be heaven.

hmm, i make some pretty good hot sauce for chicken wings. my leg o lamb comes out pretty nice. my mother’s recipe (my version) of roast chicken. the waffles i make. ....wait, i haven’t reached one favorite yet. ok, maybe try this. natto, finely chopped kale, chopped scallions, yolk of egg. stir 1 defrosted container of natto briskly 100 times. add about 1/2 to 2 cups (personal preference) of chopped kale, about 1 scallion and one egg yolk and mix again. you can add the little packet of hot mustard that comes with the natto or buy a container and add extra. also i avoid the little packet of sauce in the natto package because it often contains high fructose corn syrup. instead i use tsuyu sauce or you can just use a little soy sauce - teaspoon or maybe even less - or more to taste, and add some hana katsuo (shaved dried bonito). have it with japanese rice cooked to be a little on the firm side. this is enough for one servings but i usually double the natto, kale scallion and sometimes egg and seasoning. this also goes great with lightly seared tuna then chopped and mixed in. plop the mixture on top of the rice in a rice bowl. not western by any means but so delicious.

Wonderful looking dog. :)

Do you prefer sweet or salad, or maybe both? Both, but also being diabetic sweets are a treat with dark chocolate my favorite. I also do enjoy salads and most greens. My favorite salad is wilted lettuce which isn't exactly healthy. LOL

Is there a meal that brings you good childhood memories? Share it! Breakfast anytime, many also like it my earliest memories are from when my parents divorced when I was 5 and maternal grandparents keeping me and my brother fairly regularly. I still have breakfast for supper at least once and sometimes twice a week. They had a farm so they butchered at least one hog a year where they got the bacon and sausage and such and fresh laid eggs and milk right from the cow. Milk from the cow tastes quite a bit different from store bought.

What's one of your favorite recipes to make at home? Anything fried: chicken fried steak, fried chicken, fried pork chops, rabbit, squirrel and frog legs. A must is a heavy ages old and seasoned cast iron skillet, I have one here that belonged to my granny that was old when my mother was a child, my brother and all our first cousins received ones and buttermilk a must for the battering.

I like salads, so much to play and experiment with. A really good piece of chocolate on occasion won't be refused.
My mother was an exceptional cook and party creator... I loved when 20 live lobsters were swimming in the tub....I would play with them.. Then eat them.
Favorite childhood breakfasts....lox,eggs,&onions and fried kippers. Or at Passover time mom would make home made gefilte fish and that was a breakfast treat.
I used to love baking....I made a chocolate mousse cake that was one of my favorites
