@Angie I couldn't live without my ice maker! But it is part of my freezer so I don't know if it counts.
But my "fun" gadget is the one glass smoothie blender - the Magic bullet! I love smoothies. Goes hand in hand with the ice maker since I use the ice to make smoothies. One doesn't have to of course but in the summertime I use both a lot.

What is your favorite kitchen gadget?
Can i go with a really lame, boring answer and say my toaster? I just can't get over how strange it is that just by popping a piece of bread in there for a couple of minutes, you end up with better bread. Ascended bread. Bread 2.0.
Plus it's my mum's, one of the only gadgets of hers still plugging away and faithfully performing its duties. So i have a great deal of affection for it.

You are so right. I still have the metal 2 slot toaster from the 50’s that got passed down to me. And it works!

Thanks for tagging me, @JMG!

My cousin and I had a shouting match over what was the best kitchen gadget (please note that we had already argued for hours over the exact difference between an appliance and a gadget).

He said the Foreman grill, since it was so versatile. I said the toaster because, while it only did one thing, it did it really well.

He said the fact that it was in every kitchen made it not really a “gadget.” I argued the fact that it only did one thing (that you already had multiple methods to do) made it the very definition of a weird kitchen gadget, and it’s ubiquity was simply proof of it’s usefulness and superiority.

Anyway, long story short, that’s why I‘m missing half an eyebrow.

Toaster oven. Since I’m usually just serving myself, it makes baking/toasting the food I typically eat more convenient, i.e., sandwiches, chicken nuggets, strips, patties, etc. I don’t need to preheat nor make frequent trips to the kitchen because it stops on its own. Naturally, it’s more time consuming than using a microwave, but I find that it’s worth it to make meals a touch more savory when I’m not in a rush.

It's cool to see several other people go with the toaster or variations thereupon. I thought i was gonna catch so much sideye for picking the super basic gadget, that does one of the most mundane yet obviously brilliant things imaginable. :D

A generations old cast iron skillet passed to me by my grandmother. For all I know it was older than her, and she was born in 1910. Well worn and perfectly seasoned so it is probably a hundred years or so old.
I keep one teflon pan for fish and most eggs, but I learned to cook with my MIL’s old cast iron and enamelware. I really prefer it.

Or I did when I could cook, anyway.
